I want to share my deeply troubling experience with Doddle Cover, which is not an insurance company but rather a broker that appears to exploit vulnerable customers. My ordeal began when I was searching for car insurance via Compare the Market, and I received a quote that directed me to call Doddle Cover. I mistakenly believed they were an insurance provider.Without properly shopping around or understanding the full scope of my options, I ended up purchasing a policy through Doddle Cover, which was then underwritten by Haven Insurance and funded by Close Brothers. Haven Insurance refused to offer me cover unless Close Brothers paid my insurance in full — a confusing and unnecessary requirement. Despite the questionable process, I kept the policy for nearly two years, mainly because I needed it for work.However, during this period, my situation changed dramatically. The company I worked for went into liquidation, leaving me struggling to afford the £198.95 monthly premium. I requested a policy review, but Doddle Cover ultimately refused to help unless I contacted Haven Insurance. When I did, Haven Insurance stated they could not do anything without Doddle Cover’s involvement.Throughout my time paying for this policy, Doddle Cover offered no genuine assistance or flexibility. When I could no longer afford the payments, I had no choice but to cancel. I found a more affordable policy costing only £79 per month, which provided comprehensive coverage including windscreen, breakdown across Europe.I have emailed FCA.Avoid Doddle Cover, Avoid Haven Insurance and avoid Close Brothers!!!!
The process at the application was very thorough and robust and the garage recommended was properly vetted.Over the five years of the loan I have been impressed by the communications and statements from Close Brothers and will recommend using their service.
How I wish I could give ZERO STARS this company is dreadful and incompetent. I unknowingly ran into this company when searching for home contents insurance . I set up a direct debit for ease of payment BAD MISTAKE for the last 3 months they have tried to charge me DOUBLE THE PRICE by adding a supposed non payment to them telling me I am arrears...it turns out they were the ones in the wrong NOT ME or my bank. Today I decided to pay my insurance off in full requesting a receipt for the payment....GUESS WHAT they don't send out receipts. Seems as if they can't get anything right....*** AVOID AT ALL COSTS *
I got van through close brothers that failed a MOT due to emissions! It turned out that the van had no DPF filter fitted. This was November 2024. Over the course of a few months and after having the vehicle inspected they came to the conclusion that I had it done or that a garage where I took the van to get the EGR valve replaced had removed it without my knowledge! It gets worseAfter getting the financial ombudsman involved they looked at all the evidence and thankfully found I had been done wrong by and instructed close brothers to put the van right. Close brothers took the van away and brought it back. I took the van for an MOT it failed. Close brothers took the van away again and told me to go pick it up 49 miles away as it was fixed and they had put 12 months MOT on it. When I picked the van up the guy in the garage said I haven’t fixed it but we have put 12 months on it! Come back in 12 months we’ll do the same again. After this I called CB again and the van was sent in for a diagnostic check. The reading for emissions was 6 times over there was still no DPF filter fitted and all messages from the DPF to the computer had all been mapped out! It should never have been given the MOT. After this they said I could give the van back. By this time I just wanted the whole thing over and done with. They tried to say the van was sold with a full service history. This was found to be false as well. And they charge me £400 for damage to the van. Fast forward 3 weeks and the van which still has a broken wing mirror,my seat cover, no DPF filter and a fake MOT is on auto trader up for sale. Unbelievable!! No morals whatsoever, Stay away!!
Never had issues but now that my finance is clear just asking for a simple email to say it’s cleared so I can get rid of the car is a joke get told no to then be told yes but need to wait 48hrs I mean if you had of said yes to an email in the first place I would have the email by now so slow at clearing finance.
