Beware getting caught with Windows 11 S which can cost you a lot of time and money to sort out.I bought a laptop for my wife - I read the blurb about how this S version is a solution not a problem (!!) The claim is that it can be easily and permanently turned-off with a simple procedure. However, this 'solution' becomes a major problem when their 'simple' procedure fails. I was stuck with a machine that could not load anything other than the small range of software 'approved' by Microsoft! So no Google, no Gmail, no self chosen anti-virus, no accounts program etc.. In short, a useless, expensive piece of junk.Although both retailers and Microsoft are well aware of this disaster facing a lot of customers, no prior warnings are given ( A big issue under Section 22 of the 2015 Consumer Rights Act) This is then compounded by discovering that because you don't discover the problem until late-on in the set-up, you will have loaded lots of 'personal information. Only then do you discover that the lap top cannot be returned! (Contravening Section 22 'Unfair Conditions and Section 62 'Early Returns' rights clause in the same Act).Retailers' Technical Departments can't/won't help, instead, passing the problem onto Microsoft, even though the same Act is clear that your primary contract is with the retailer not Microsoft, and it is for the retailer to sort out the problem if they did not forewarn you, before purchase.. Apparently, and I am a complete novice, you have to change the laptop's BIOS - not something that amateurs should attempt, as that could affect the Guarantee. For me the only way forward was to complain, refuse to accept retailer denials, be prepared to take legal action and get the retailer to accept the return on the basis of failure to comply with the 2015 Act.Time consuming, stressful, infuriating - Yes, yes, yes. But it probably raises yet another anti-trust issue for Microsoft as they market, as a benefit, allegedly another attempt at gaining a monopoly and controlling the software market. For us non-technical consumers, Microsoft needs to come clean and warn potential purchasers of the nightmare they face when the 'simple procedure to switch-off S, does not work. Conclusion: I did get my money back but it took two days, many fruitless phone calls, and seeking legal help.
Well my microsoft account has been hacked and this has allowed the hackers to take over all my social media and I can't get in touch with microsoft at all this is absolutely shocking that this is happening and microsoft don't even care they only protect there business accounts shocking worst company ever
Dreadful arrogant company that needs smashed into as many pieces as possible by antitrust legislation. Yet again locked out of my daughters school account by a stupid login procedure that asks for a £ key rather than a hash on her phone in response to a call. Everything put in one drive on her computer by arrogant microsoft automatically so they can collect money for her storage being full, despite us wanting to choose what goes there. Please someone destroy this organisation.
I've now called customer service twice and both times got people with ridiculous accents I could not understand one sounded like a robot. I was trying to find out why I have been paying $6.99 a month for Microsoft Office for months now when my friends just told me that they all have it for over a year for free that they got through online. At that point then it was just silence and then they cut me off. so I still don't have an answer.
i have now been using windows 11 for a week, it is APPALING. The whole shortcut/quick access features have been completely destroyed and i spend ages trying to access my files. USELESS. The home button (apparently where quick access is now) takes 30 seconds to load..
This week after having first put my Microsoft Merchant Centre account on hold over an unpaid bill my store was suspended and all ads blocked. The reason given was breach of their egregious behaviour policy. The letter informing me of this mentioned a list of examples of things that would amount to a breach of this policy. However, I did not go on to say that my ad breached this policy by and identifying how it was breached in my particular case. I was permitted to appeal this decision. Something that twitter earlier in the week in relation to a similar incident did not do. Obviously without knowing the full reason for the suspension this was hard to do. However I did my best by guessing what the concern was. Today in upholding my suspension they failed to address the points I raised in my appeal all they did is repeat what was said about breach of the egregious behaviour policy. It seems that giving actual reasons for a decision so that a person can meaningfully appeal is not done.
THIS TIME Microsoft HAVE GONE TOO FAR!Well, that's it, I'm finally out. The ONLY reason I use Windows is because I have/had an affinity with Word. Having spent 8 hours trying to get my new Windows 11 laptop out of S Mode (because my whole world is on Chrome) MS tells me my Word license has expired and I have to download 365 (or words to that effect). That was my last tenuous connection to Microsoft. Since 1995 I have lost days uploading software, fixing problems, crashing, looking at blue screens etc. Having been forced to Libre then Open Office, I found Google Docs. Happy Day! My world of freedom has begin.Good by Microsoft!(Original post) Windows has never been great but now MS has included S Mode. This keeps you from using apps like Chrome. Tring to get out of S Mode is an ongoing nightmare! From now in, it's Chromebooks all the way!
I have been using Microsoft "Classic outlook" for mail and requested to use "New outlook". Did this after a sync and worked in new system for 1 day. Then requested to do a MS update and mail reverted back to "Classic Outlook" (which I prefer). Phoned MS 020766000308 after a very long wait told MS still working on glitches for "New Outlook" Most unhelpful/unprofessional. Only release when tested??????
