Extremely Disappointing Experience with a Host

I never want to use the platform again after my encounter with a host in Weaverville. The host was incredibly rude and made me feel discriminated against. She bombarded me with calls and spoke down to us, claiming she felt uncomfortable with our stay and even accused us of stealing! I don't trust the platform when a host can falsely claim we 'damaged the property' without any evidence. She tried to charge us extra fees as well, despite us leaving everything clean and even sweeping up. We had two emotional support animals (one being a service dog) that were pre-approved, and her place was listed as pet-friendly, yet she referred to them as dirty animals. Does the platform condone this kind of treatment towards guests and allow such discrimination? I submitted a review of her cabin, but it was removed. How can businesses delete customer reviews while allowing host reviews to remain? I also filed a discrimination complaint, but it seems to have been ignored. I feel voiceless in this situation. I wish I could get a refund; it was a terrible experience. I cannot trust the platform again; there needs to be better protection for guests against unreasonable and hostile hosts.

I booked a stay from the UK to Larnaca, Cyprus, for October 2nd to 16th, 2025. Upon arriving at the apartment, the elevator was out of order, which was a significant issue due to my son's disability. The apartment had a terrible smell of waste, which we promptly reported to the host. He acknowledged the problem and offered us alternative accommodation, but it was not in our preferred area. The following day, the host informed us that our new accommodation was already booked for other guests starting October 6th, so we had to vacate by 10 AM that day. We had paid for a central three-bedroom apartment for our entire stay. The host suggested a one-bedroom option ten miles away, which we declined. He then insisted we find our own place or face eviction, threatening involvement from local authorities. We managed to secure another accommodation but were only refunded half the amount for the four nights of our fourteen-night reservation. The service acknowledged that this was not the holiday we had anticipated and offered $200 in compensation, which was never paid. The host was unhelpful, and the support from the service was lacking. Each time I reached out, I spoke to a different representative, making it impossible to resolve the issue efficiently. It felt like a deliberate tactic to avoid accountability. I strongly advise against engaging with this platform.

Additionally, every towel, sheet, and blanket had a moldy smell, and the entire home reeked of mold. I even had to shower again at night because the living-room blanket left a strong odor on my skin. This was not an exaggeration; these are fundamental conditions that any guest should expect. I submitted a polite review detailing my experience without insults or personal attacks, just the facts. However, the host contested it, and the platform removed my review. They instructed me to “document” the issues with photos or videos, which is unreasonable for smells or missing items. I spent two days trying to communicate with customer support, but my messages were ignored. When I finally reached a manager, they informed me that nothing would be done and the case would remain closed. I didn't request any compensation or a free stay; I had previously enjoyed my time at this property and left a positive review. My intention was not to harm the host but to share my honest experience. The platform chose to eliminate a truthful review at the host's request, disregarding a paying customer's concerns and silencing a legitimate complaint instead of fostering transparency. This is not a credible platform, nor does it respect its users, and this is not how a review system should function.

Lack of Accountability for Listing Accuracy

It appears that the service does not take responsibility for the correctness of their listings. We reserved one that displayed an incorrect district and location on the map. Upon arrival, we were informed that the true address was 13km away from what was advertised. The company was notified, yet four weeks later, the incorrect listing remains. Be sure to obtain the actual address from the host before you leave.

Caution: Unfair Cancellation Policy

I canceled my reservation 4.5 months prior to the check-in date, expecting to receive 50% of the rental fee back. Instead, I got nothing. The explanation from the service and the host was that my initial 50% deposit was non-refundable, and the refundable portion was based on what I hadn't yet paid. This experience feels exploitative; I wouldn't recommend trusting them with your finances.

PROCEED WITH CAUTION Terrible experience, booked a property that turned out to be a scam, leaving a group of girls stranded in London at night, cold and with nowhere to go. The lack of proper research on the property and owner resulted in them having no accommodations. After contacting the support team, they promised a £1000 coupon and a refund, but later reduced it to £600 and only credited £400. Despite leaving the girls in a vulnerable situation in London, they failed to fulfill their commitment to find them safe accommodations for the night. The supervisor I spoke to was unhelpful, and it was clear the customer service team did not prioritize the safety of their clients. Proceed with caution.

As a host for six years and a super host, I was disappointed to receive a misleading $100 coupon for achieving superhost status. If you cancel a reservation after applying the coupon, they retract it, despite the booking being labeled as 'fully cancelable and refundable.' If I could give zero stars, I would. The accommodation was unsafe, with black mold, blood on the curtains, and an overall dirty smell. There were both dead and live cockroaches present. After requesting a refund and leaving an honest review, the host retaliated, claiming we caused damage and demanding payment for extra cleaning that was unnecessary. We left the place clean. The service also failed to post our review, claiming it violated their policy, which is baffling given that we only stated the unsanitary conditions. Additionally, the co-host pressured me to change my negative review to a positive one. Now, the host and the service want us to pay despite the evidence we provided. I strongly advise against using this service; it feels like a scam that doesn't meet the standards they advertise. Staying in a hotel is a safer option than this experience.
