Booked car hire with added extra for a sunday collection at 11. Went to shop - it doesn’t open on a Sunday… Called customer service asked to change the collection to Belfast airport to be told would have to cancel the booking and rebook - losing over £300 to wait on a refund. Advised I can not do this to be told he doesn’t own Eurocar doesn’t care either way and hung up on. Called back got a girl this time at a party - could hardly hear her over the music to be told the same as it’s a new booking. Asked if we could just get it on Monday morning to be advised no as it’s a new booking would again need to loose and wait in the original booking money and rebook. Cancelled completely and went with Alamo - who were a dream against this riot. 16 days (working) later - still waiting on my refund ! Actual joke of a company should not be allowed to be in business total scammers
Abysmal, rude and discriminatory. Performed soft credit check without any notice. Refused to hire because of some address nonsense when they had UK drivers license with address on it; proceeded to immediately received hires from two other mainstream car rental companies afterwards. Avoid like the plague.
We rented a car in the summer for 24 days and then I rented again in September for 9 days. The price was almost the same for the 9 days as it was for nearly a month. For 24 days in August, plus an extra driver, we paid £1,183.61, and in September we paid £1,115.60 for 9 days. I was quoted a price that seemed reasonable at the time as the car we had reserved wasn't available. It turns out the cost quoted was on top of the previous quote not a new price. We are waiting for them to respond to Resolver but it has been over a month and no response. I wouldn't recommend them at all. We are seriously out of pocket.
They are trickster that won’t tell you of extra charges and just take advantage of the situation when you go to pick up the car. They made me sign a paper that I though was the rental I approved on the internet but actually they were selling me a premium I never asked for not gave consent for, never they explainedAnything.Truly regrettable costumer service.
I made a reservation to pick up a car in Izmir, Türkiye. I was planning to drive using a Chilean Driver's license (document in Spanish). I verified that the license requirements published asked for an international license only for languages with non-roman alphabets, like Mandarin, Russian, Greek and Arabic. That rule does not apply to Spanish. The document I received after booking stated the same rule, international license if the document is not in Roman characters. But then talking to a representative in Türkiye, they told me I can't rent a car with that license, but also they can't cancel my reservation, because Europcar UK is an independent agency of Europcar Turkey. The UK website doesn't list any phone number to call from abroad, and the offices abroad cannot modify the reservation.Finally, I had to cancel via the website and only after that I received email with a single line saying, non-English licenses are not accepted. Without quoting any document, just a trust-me-bro statement.They collected my money immediately, but even if cancellation was well before the 48 hours before collection, and I still haven't received a refund. I'm very disappointed by the miscommunication and lack of clarity of the nonsensical rules.I recommend avoiding this service.
I was regular. But not anymore.This company app is not working! The website is corrupt, and it can trick you out of your available funds. AVOID!Today, I logged in to the website and verified my debit card as usual. The website spits an error and charges me instead of creating a booking on their system. The charge is now in my pending transaction, preventing me from using the money.I phoned customer service, who explained that the money wouldn't leave my bank account since there was no booking. However, I cannot use this money for five days, and I need a car on Monday with no money to pay for it. This company will run a credit check on your name at the time of the booking and may leave you stuck for 5 to 10 days with no cash and no way out!!! Customer service cannot do anything without a manager to supervise them! Complete sham!Edit: after the reply.Your reply is detached and automatic as can be. I stipulated that I contacted customer service 4 times on the day and wasn't able to resolve. "Why don't you write us an email?"-is not good enough. If you had motivation, you could investigate based on my information and your CS logs/recordings. There is nothing more to add.
Worst experience hiring a car in 30 years.1) Despite having a large empty airconditioned office, they made everyone including small children wait outside in the sweltering heat. Totally unnecessary (especially as every other rental car company was based in side the comfortable arrival terminal).2) As you waited for your ticket to come up as, you could see 50% of staff chatting to each other vs serving customers adding significant waiting time [which obviously would not have happened if people were allowed to be inside]2) Despite me saying clearly that I didn’t want excess insurance cover, I received a hard sell and was effectively threatened when I didn’t take and was asked for an additional €500 deposit.3) Having paid for a car for four suitcases, the car boot was not close to large enough to fit (and they were soft squeezable suitcases) and I was made to pay more for a larger car (€25 per day)4) On return, there were no spaces and I parked in the second row of Europcar spaces. I returned the key and was told “it was my job to move it” (by one of the four people standing around doing nothing)5) The car on filling up had a diesel cap but two stickers said unleaded petrol. I therefore was not able to fill as didn’t want to take the risk
Diabolical company!We hired an suv with them in august 2024 in Majorca Spain and they gave us a “compact suv” which was apparently in the same “class” as a regular suv meaning our luggage didn’t fit and we were in huge discomfort with bags on our kids laps etc. The queueing was horrendous and the customer service was dire, with no apology at all for our extensive wait with two small children in tow. The car seats we had to pick up separately from a different location and one of them was broken, resulting in another trip to swap it for another. They gave the hard sell on the ridiculously costly insurance which was not appreciated and they were unfriendly and unkind. The return process was awful with lazy slow people not moving cars out the way/parking them so we were stuck in a queue for an age waiting for the morons to move. Will never go with Europcar again
Since 1980, I have escorted thousands of people around Europe, and I still do so today. Over the years, I've used Avis, SIXT, National, Hertz, Enterprise, Sureprice, Auto Union, Budget, and Alamo, and every company has consistently been above board and treated me as expected. Only Europcar has acted dishonestly and disreputablely.EUROPCAR made three unauthorized charges on my credit card: $894.41, $53.57, and $63.90. I returned the car with a full tank of gas, no damage, and clean. I rented the car through CHASE using points and my credit card. I contacted Europcar. They never explained what the chargers were for but eventually offered a refund IF I paid another unexplained change! Chase offered a partial refund but claimed they could not get me a full refund because EUROPCAR said I authorized the additional charges.I regret not researching the company and other customers' difficulties with EUROPCAR's fees and additional charges. $894.41 may seem like a small amount of money to some, but theft is theft. Until EUROPCAR refunds my money and corrects their error, I will let everyone know on my tours and future travels and urge everyone renting cars to avoid this company.
