Abusive company. We go to the counter, and we specifically asked for full insurance, the highest they have, we are informed that it covers everything, not to worry about anything because it’s covered. Then we see the car, stained, coffe all over the place, old system that doesn’t even has GPS integrated or lets the phone connect and “minor” issue on the front wheel.First bump, flat tire and they said that they need to send the car tow, they could have sent someone and just inflate the tire. We retuned the car, first they give us a new one, when the rental was finished, and informed us that we will be charged one more day, we never asked for another car. Then they say they will charge 2,2 per liter for the gas, we had to go with the flat tire to the gas station to avoid this. Then we get a final bill of 275 euros, only 75 is from the rental, because they state that the FULL insurance does not cover the road assistance, find in the photos their website, it clearly says it does.Shame on big companies that just can’t find more annoying ways of taking your money. We took Hertz because is supposed to be better, at least is more expensive, never again in Cork.
We booked a car online from Denmark . We needed a car from Dublin airport to drive around for a week. We got the final price and booked. When we got to Dublin to pick up the car. If you didnt get the full insurance they would charge you 200 euro on top of the original price. If we wanted to get what we ordered online then they wanted a deposit for 3500 euro. DO NOT USE HERTZ / DOLLAR
I am a president circle member (their top tier) never had an issue before. When i went to the desk in Dublin the guy was like sign and away you go, as normal like every other time but this time he added extra insurance so i signed as normal and went on my way, upon returning noticed the extra 126 euros but was in a hurry for our flight so figure i would just call. 4 calls later never got someone used the chat, denied the refund was told you signed for it even though my profile has it all loaded as every past rental that I dont take extra insurance since i have travel and amex insurance that more than covers me, lesson learned ask questions read your information dont trust profiles and loyalty status and unfortunately the hertz Dublin desk. Btw rented from hertz in Belfast 2 months ago, was perfect signed and drove off, no bait and switch with extra insurance
Initially my holiday broker - flight centre booked us in for a manual car (even though I had stated auto on 3 different occasions and she said (don't worry about what the paperwork says I will fix it) so I tried to get the car upgraded to auto ... The cost was massive and my credit card bounced due to the totally different car with insurance which I didn't ask for. There was no compassion or concern for my plight. His attitude was total indifference verging on an attitude with a real misogynistic flavour to it. "Dont worry he said I wont rip you off".. LOL. Well he did rip me off big time. He also told me that I would need to find some airport in the middle of no where after the weekend as this rental was only going to last for the weekend. my plight I was told I had to a different. I ended up paying the cost for the original rental, getting a smaller car damaged car with a massive insurance.I felt trapped as I needed a car to collect my Husband who had Parkinsons Disease. This didn't matter to him. Would not recommend. I would give zero stars if this was possible. Everything else about the trip was amazing
Disgusting. This is our second review hoping to get some kind of action from Hertz/dollar. A few weeks ago we rented a car from dollar (part of Hertz) for a duration of 5 days. I had read carefully all the information before collecting the vehicle and was well aware of the deposit and cost of hire, however upon collection was charged another £30 as I was driving into NI (online it says there would be no extra charge for this.) Car on collection was fine and condition was decent. 2 days into hiring we had a tyre pressure alert on the dash. We stopped and topped them up noticing one tyre was significantly below the 32PSI recommended (25PSI). Next morning same alert popped up and on stopping noticed one tyre was flat this time. We called the emergency number and were told we had to replace this out of pocket and couldn't guarantee we would get this back. We replaced the tyre locally and were told by 2 mechanics that the two front tyres were completely unroadworthy and quote "no one should be hiring out cars with tyres in this condition". Extremely pissed off and now an extra £60 out of pocket we thought it was over. However on the way back to the airport the next day the alert came on again. Afraid we would miss our flight and with no obvious flat we carried on and gave it back with the alert still on the dash. (We are assuming this has simply been turned off and given to another unsuspecting customer, like we clearly were.)Absolutely disgusting, negligent behaviour from this company. Since writing this I've seen numerous other reviews stating similar tyre issues with no help or serious reply from Herts/dollar. I won't stop until we get this fixed, we had children in the car over that weekend in typical Irish weather and are extremely lucky to have had no accidents on unroadworthy, MOT failing tyres.
They will not tell you clearly about charges. They take your credit card and charge away. It’s disgusting how they are allowed to do this and then be all smug about it. Will never use them again in any country. Using the dollar car hire name but charged as hertz.
My wife became ill and I had to modify our existing booking to delay pick up for 3 days. I didn't realise at the time but they had virtually doubled the price of the hire to have the car for three less days. Raised the issue through Hertz Australia and after the Ireland branch refused to budge Aus branch refunded the difference themselves. Hertz is a good brand but Ireland gives it a terrible name. Will continue to use Hertz but not there.
I hired a car from Hertz with no issues at the time of rental. However, weeks after returning the vehicle, I was shocked to find a €96 charge on my credit card—apparently an “admin fee” for two unpaid tolls. At no point during the rental process was I informed about this fee, nor that I was responsible for manually paying tolls. I reasonably assumed the tolls would be charged based on the car’s registration, as is common with many rental companies. To make matters worse, two months later I received a €75 fine directly from the toll company. Turns out Hertz had charged €48 each way (yes, €96 total) just to pass on my details to the toll company. That’s on top of the original €96 admin fee they already took from me.This experience feels like a money grab. Poor communication, excessive fees, and zero transparency. I won’t be using Hertz again—and I’d strongly advise others to check the fine print and consider other rental companies that treat customers more fairly
