Horrible Halifax

As per all other reviews with a 1 star rating I only use this as I cannot write 0 if reviewing. To date our claim has gone on for two years!!! We had a water leak, an emergency. We had fully qualified and recommended trades men out to stop the leak immediately as it had flooded and damaged two bedrooms in our house. This happened as we were all coming out of lockdown and I couldn’t get through to anyone for weeks, by tge time I had got through we’d had to organise an emergency plumber ourselves to stop further damage believing that this would be an invoice we would submit in the claim. NOBODY came back to us for months about putting the damage right despite many long phone calls waiting for a response. We even engaged a third party to liaise on our behalf as we weren’t getting any response. Finally a loss adjuster came out after months and confirmed the damage asked us to get three quote from builders, which we did and he would submit a report to our insurance. Once they’d received this we should be able to continue with repairs. After more months and phone call we still hadn’t received a copy of the report or any communication from our insurance company. So after no response and because we needed to use these rooms we had little choice but to get repairs done. There had been some discrepancies on our insurance claim form so we had thought that this was why they hadn’t paid out the claim so we referred to the ombudsman for support. Again no response nothing. The whole thing has been totally horrendous. Basically we had given up but then this year out of the blue we received an email stating that the royal sun alliance had upheld our underwriting and that our insurer should pay us the amount agreed finally. But guess what I’m writing this review for a reason. Now after all this time Halifax want ‘invoices’, but because it’s been so long and we haven’t had any communication we didn’t keep them. So now two formal complaints have been submitted which will possibly take yet another few months. Honestly I would not recommend this company to anyone, it is unprofessional, disrespectful dishonest a scam in every aspect!! Disgusting behaviour. Please always read reviews and don’t use them.

Bad .Waisting money .I accidently damaged phone ,make claim ,lady on phone said that model not available anymore .Next model not covered by excess(300£).And finally give to me 73£.It's ridiculous. Better put money in save account then pay for insurance.

Will not repair or replace goods

As all the other reviews state, Halifax are crooks and will not pay out if you make a claim. I’ve been told I am lying and they will not fix or replace my damaged item. I’m hundreds of pounds out of pocket shame on you Halifax, we will be moving our insurance and mortgage asap!

If I could give zero stars I would

If I could give zero stars I would. First, Halifax Home Emergency Insurance... tried to claim twice for both a water escape and a roof leak. The water escape wasn't covered because the pipe was concealed in a wall and the roofing contractor would come out in a week's time. Emergency has a different meaning to them. Then there's Halifax Home Insurance. After getting the water escape fixed myself they took months to repair the damage, pennypinched on the materials and were incredibly difficult to deal with. As expected, then hiked the insurance premium significantly the next year. Only renewed as work was not quite complete.Avoid at all costs and look elsewhere.

I have only given a star so I could…

I have only given a star so I could write the review, they don't deserve any stars. Had a major leak from a washing machine that leaked badly that my floor has given way in the kitchen. I have a 2ft void under the house, and the machine is currently sitting on joyce and under the units and floor has gone too. they asked to get 3 quotes but they don't honor the quotes they want their cowboy contactors in who they only pay an hourly rate to do the work ( not good quality trades people) I refuse to have their contractors in and want no hassle a good tradesman who can do it and if anything goes wrong you know where they are. the whole kitchen floor has to be replaced including the moisture proof floor, unit cacus on one side. it has taken them 13 weeks and no joy so now going to ombudsman they are the worse ever and will never want to use them ever again. They go on holiday during your claim and no one deals with it in their absence a con total con don't want to pay out what it should be rip off Britain. Halifax offered me £150 compensation which i declined.

If it were possible to give zero stars...

This is a review about Halifax Home Emergency cover, and if it were possible to give zero stars, that's what the review would be. As others have mentioned in this review, the customer service is totally shambolic -- if you have an emergency, they will respond at a GLACIAL pace. After calling about our boiler broke down, we were told an engineer was coming, and then were passed around like a hot potato with 3 different contractors. Every time you try to have an answer, you get passed on to another department or told to call another. There is no way to follow-up on your service, and no one from Halifax takes accountability or tries to make the process smoother. After 24 hours of chasing them down, an engineer came down to do a quick fix... and of course, the boiler is not fixed. We called Halifax back again to let them know the fix has not worked, only for them to say they need to wait another 24 hours for the report to come in, before they can take action. To date, we are on day 3 without functional heating, but have had least 7 calls with customer service. In short, avoid this service at all costs -- this is a waste of your money and your time.

Rip off in every possible way

I took out insurance with Halifax for my car with my husband as a named driver. About a week later, Halifax Insurance contacted me to say there would be an additional £293 to pay because there had been a claim in my husband's name. Looking at the date of the claim, it became apparent this related to an accident one of my husband's employees had had a few months previously. My husband was wrongly named as the driver. Several fraught phone calls and emails later, we managed to correct the central insurance records, so the accident was correctly recorded in his employees name. I then received a letter from Halifax asking me to 'urgently' contact them (apparently not so urgent they would answer the phone in less than 25 mins). The call centre operator started by saying the proof we'd send that my husband wasn't driving wasn't adequate because it was emailed. When I pointed out that Halifax Insurance had asked me to email the proof, she went quiet and then came back and said it was ok, she had updated the records to say my husband wasn't driving. She then started asking all kinds of questions about the accident my husband's employee had had. I told her it was irrelevant - he was a named driver on a commercial policy held by my husband, and my husband was a named driver on a domestic policy I held. But she kept banging on about the accident and how it impacted on our policy. When I asked whether she was going to refund the £293 extra they took from my credit card, she said because of an accident that someone not on our policy had had (not even his fault, by the way) they would only be refunding £79!! Just baffling, nonsensical bureaucracy. I told her to cancel the policy from midnight. Apparently that wasn't possible. The policy could be cancelled immediately (that minute) but could be cancelled from midnight the following day. Oh, and the refund for the whole policy would take 8 days. Really wish I'd looked at all the other awful reviews before dealing with this terrible company

Halifax home insurance better than the rest!!

Halifax have been nothing short of outstanding with my claim. A tree fell in my garden and onto my outbuilding, writing it off along with loads of contents. They were quick to react and sorted everything from tree removal, outbuilding removal and rebuilding. I can't fault them at all. Best experience I've ever had with an insurance company. I'll be sticking with them for a very long time! My neighbour was with some other company and had a nightmare. Thank you Halifax
