Terrible! I was advised to take home insurance with them as I was taking a mortgage out with them and they are finicky around cover, and they won't release the mortgage without their specific cover. Fast forward 2 years, and for the first time in 25 years I try to make a claim as I had a leak running down the side of my chimney, as the lead flashing had broken and was split. Tried to do the claim online...it wouldn't work, so called them. They explained excess etc and said a surveyor would contact me within 48 hours. All good, that happened. The surveyor said that one side of my roof, the smallest section of the 3, had multiple tiles damaged and some missing, and lead flashing was damaged, BUT he said it's unlikely they would pay out as my bungalow is 90-100 years old, and the roof the same age. I said well it's clear that only that section is damaged and I never thought that lead flashing around one chimney, out of the 3 chimneys, could be that damaged through wear and tear. He said that they would contact me re the claim. That was March, over 5 months ago, and no communication from Halifax at all. I paid for that section to be done myself. I'll never recommend them and once the renewal comes through they can go jump in a lake! Ps surveyor was from Martin Dales... Wear + tear apparently! Really, just to one small side and after a big storm and we heard the crashes on the roof, being a bungalow and that section is above the lounge. I reacon Halifax pay Martin Dales to get them out of not paying... Halifax are scammers!
