Usually I hop onto the DFDS ferry to go Dover to Calais. But for various reasons, I ended up exploring Irish Ferries for this journey.I have to say, I wish I had switched years ago!The price was better than the others. That probably fluctuates but was in my favour this time.At the docks they have a better position next to the BurgerKing/WHsmith/clean toilets. On the ferry it was much cleaner and nicer than I am used to. The ship looked like it had recently been refitted.I paid extra for the ClubClass and was pleasantly surprised. I'll be doing that every trip now.Only niggle I has was the duty free shopping they missed the discount voucher I presented. But no biggy.Other aspects are similar to all. Same process through the docks. Same time on route etc.
So Irish Ferries go technical and cancle ferries and bump you to the next one.We can all say OK, except theybth3n send an email out with the wrong time so you missnthem closing the car gate in front of you.You try to complain to a supervisor who is too busy showing off to the young receptionists so he can secure his next finger blasting, but who has no clue about customer service....Well Done Irish Ferries, employ neanderthals in customer service jobs. Always a good callLeaving one star because you can't just say shit service and dreadful communication
I have 2 experiences with ferries One - Stenaline going to wales One - Irish ferries coming home Stenaline was grand no issues Irish ferries was the total oppositeFirst I got zero notification I paid, no refference - the only thing I got was a text to say the boat has been delayed 2 hours Then when we get there it was not delayed 2 hours it was delayed over 4 hours It seemed what delayed it the most was how long it took to load the cars on to the boat which is down to logistical management and not enough staff. Then honestly I could go on and on with how many things annoyed me with this trip compared to with stenaline but I’mNot botheredBasically if you have the option don’t go with Irish ferries
I have a house in France and travel over every two weeks and have done so for many years. I have tried all four of the operators doing the crossing and currently my favorite is Irish Ferries. Firstly they are one of the cheapest (a three/four day return crossing currently costing £98, though you get this only through their website). Secondly the ships are comfortable, particularly the new to the fleet Oscar Wild. I always travel in the Club Class Lounge. There is an extra charge but what you get for that is a tasty three course meal and free drinks. If you compare the price for a meal and a drink in the main dining aria you are not paying very much more. You also get Priority boarding which allows you to get on and off first which is particularly useful when it is busy and a very comfortable and quite lounge. Though it dose cost extra, compared to the other two ferry companies, is significantly cheaper and for that (Oscar Wild) you get the large, comfortable lounge, an exclusive posh toilet and sundeck. Finally, and something I do grumble about is P&O and DFDS VIP lounge's look lovely but if you want to sit in comfort and perhaps have a kip which I do, you can't. The seats look good but they are just for show. They are simply hard and uncomfortable.
Irish Ferries provided us with one of the most disappointing travel experiences we’ve ever had. We were traveling with our elderly cat and opted to use their cattery. However, the cattery’s location was utterly unsuitable—situated in such a noisy area that it was a complete nightmare for the cats. The constant loud sounds were distressing, especially for our senior pet, who was clearly terrified throughout the journey. To make matters worse, when we politely requested to keep our cat in her cage with us in our private cabin, we were flatly denied, despite the fact that it would have caused no inconvenience to anyone else. The lack of compassion and understanding from the staff was shocking, and it made an already stressful trip even worse.I would strongly advise against traveling with Irish Ferries if you’re bringing a pet—they clearly do not prioritize the well-being of animals.
A truly large, exclusive, and comfortable ship. The staff were friendly, and there were no issues with boarding or disembarking; everything went quickly (speaking of the Cherbourg-Dublin route). The only downside I have to mention is regarding the transport of my cat. The cats were inappropriately placed above the stairs in a very noisy area. At least the dogs had two small houses. Transporting a pet is not the most comfortable experience. But otherwise thanks a lot.
I wish I had read the TrustPilot reviews before booking with this joke of a company. As I write this, I am stranded at Calais having just missed our ferry due to the fault of Irish Ferries. We arrived well over an hour before our crossing and were met with huge lines at check in. We immediately raised our concerns with the check in staff who confirmed it would be ok and there was time. This had been relayed to several others in the queue. It transpired their computers had broken. Low and behold, we eventually got to the ferry bang on departure time. It had left. The employees at the gate were aggressive, rude and utterly useless. They said it was our fault for not being on time. There had been no communication that a large number of passengers had been held up. We are now looking at the time table and the next ferry leaves in several hours. When we asked about compensation, we were met with snickering from the employee. It appears they have rid themselves of any fault. No one has come round to explain to any of the passengers what is going on. We are all just sat in a queue assuming another ferry will arrive in a few hours. This is disgusting customer service. To add, we did not receive booking confirmation of our £300 crossing and it did not show on the incredibly dodgy website, resulting in tremendous issues checking in. The ferry itself is unpleasant. We paid a premium for the club lounge and ended up moving back down to standard class because of how horrible it was. Dark, dated and very uncomfortable. The food is awful. I am unsure how they get away with charging people upwards of £20 for any of it. Never again will we make the mistake of using this company. There are ample other options in the market. Steer clear.
