Leave Site5 now, for your safety!

I was unaware that Site5 was bought by web.com. I have had a shared hosting plan with them for well over a decade. Decent service, good uptime along with decent, at least capable support was enough reason for me to not leave and face the headaches of migrating all my client's sites and email yada yada.Yesterday I log in to re-do a wordpress multisite and Wordpress says I've reached my limit of 256MB for the media folder! This is not the file upload limit size, this is 256MB for all my digital assets. This is a setting done by the web host. They did this to my root site. They did this without my consent and lied to me about it. Said it was my settings, that I changed something. I spent over half a day, literally, dealing with the fallout and I believe I have been maliciously targeted because of a lousy support agent. The support agent was worse than incompetent, he was obtuse and insistent he knew what he was doing, when in fact he should end up on r/confidentlyincorrect. After a few hours of chat where he told me a half dozen times it was fixed when it wasn't, :my SSL certiticate was disabledmy wp-admin login for the root admin user was CHANGEDmy FTP credentials have changed and now I have been unable to access any of my client's sites since last night via all of my FTP accounts. This is a serious issue and support would not escalate me to escalated support chat, and they no longer have phone support. Waiting half a day between support ticket responses is really inefficient when it comes to a serious security breach. There is no escalation. Support is worthless, 90% of their responses are copy/pasted from a script. You find yourself 30 minutes into a chat and nothing has happened other than a sea of "i understand your issue and it's important to me that i fix it" "thank you for your patience" "I need another 2-3 minutes to look into this (3 times in a row over 30 minutes). You need to provide them with the info numerous times during the chat, and sometimes they seem to forget what the issue at hand even is. I believe this is due to them being on multiple chats, nobody can be that stupid and hold a job they cannot even perform or resolve.I mistakenly paid my invoice yesterday before I went to work on my site, so now I am in the process of transferring my sites to a new host, doing a chargeback via my credit card company, and contacting a lawyer, unless I hear back from them very soon. The reasons is due to the support agent changing my password to access my wordpress via my user account because he didn't believe me (or my screenshots!) that the issue was still unresolved. That's malicious if not just a breach of trust and policy. The FTP changes add to this most likely being a malicious actor.Site5 won't acknowledge that it happened, nonetheless provide me with a reason for what happened. I cannot trust my client's sites with web.com / site5.com and I emplor you to look for an immediate web host that takes your security seriously, is willing to address and fix issues they caused without haste, and will escalate you to proper levels of support if they are unable to resolve it.

Turning off auto-renew doesn't stop…

Turning off auto-renew doesn't stop them from charging you again. When you try to contact customer service, you are then sent to a foreign customer service that feels even more like a scam than trying to service you. As I said, after the whole experience with them, you feel like you've been totally scam.

Site5 charged my account a $318 renewal…

Site5 charged my account a $318 renewal for 3 years despite my TURNING OFF auto renew, and writing 3 times to cancel my account 3 weeks before the previous subscription expired. They would not reverse the charge despite my warning that the charge would be disputed!Shout out to inmotionhosting.com where I migrated my site to, and where everything works flawlessly like it should.

Worst Hosting Ever

This used to be the best hosting before it was taken over. Now, for my hosting to support a newer php version, I have to buy a new hosting from them, and then they will migrate the previous hostings to that server. Their support is below average, and very poor. I would not recommend anyone site5

These other bad reviews aren't joking

These other bad reviews aren't joking. We've been with site5 for a few years. It has become terrible especially in tech support.

Absolutely terrible customer service!!

Absolutely terrible customer service. They charge $40 for SSL and they don't allow customers to install their own. Their tech support has to manually do it. They don't send a reminder or auto-renew SSL. Mine just expired so I requested a new one. I paid for it. 6 days later and numerous messages sent through their ticket system I've only received one response and that was to make sure to pay for it and send them confirmation. I did and now no response. No phone number to call or chat option. Guess I'll have to deny the charge on my card and move my site elsewhere.

Stay away from site5

I've been a site5 customer for many years. In the last few years the tech support has been degrading rapidly. It's not so much that they can't resolve a problem eventually but that these problems exist in the first place. For example I used to be able to create a website and install wordpress and it would propagate within an hour. Now 11 days later they tell me that the IP number was incorrect. Shouldn't they be setting the correct default IP number..?And now all of my historical tickets are gone and there is no way to create one on the site. so it's all based on using the chat feature (which was the faster way to get action anyway). A few weeks ago one of my sites got corrupted. That never happened before. I have a feeling that they have lost their best techs and are just barely scraping by at this point. On top of that they have raised their prices significantly. I'll be leaving site5 a few months before my expiration.

Horrible. Unspeakable bad and morally bankrupt

After hosting a website with this company for close to a decade, I have now lost everything. My site crashed on January 1, 2023 and since then I have had nothing from Site 5 but deflection, prevarication, obfuscation and straight up lies. I get promised results within 24 hours, but receive nothing. I am told emails will come, but they never do. Ticket numbers are never resolved. With fears of 12 years of work being lost forever, I was talked into buying a new service so the old data could be migrated to a "new server". After I did so, I was then told my old site was too huge to move! When I insisted they restore my site to a pre-2023 version, I was told there was no backups prior to January, but now I'm told I'm using 79GB of data. This is a company of spiteful, morally bankrupt liars. 12 years of my life is gone thanks to this horrible company. Never use them

With Site5 you cannot have a secure website if you are using a Shared hosting plan.

We have been using Site5 since 2003, and it used to be a great company. However, over time, it deteriorated tremendously. Emails have been lost, Spam filters are not working properly, and the Knowledge Base articles are outdated (most of them are dated 2013 or earlier). However, our last straw was the SSL certificate. Unlike the majority of modern hosting providers, Site5 does not provide free SSL certificate. You cannot install your own SSL certificate either. The only option is to purchase an SSL certificate directly from Site5, which costs $40 per year. However, this is not the biggest problem. Apparently, for the Shared Hosting, HTTPS links for the sites that are hosted on the same server but do not have an SSL certificate installed will be forwarded to your domain, which made our business look like a fraud on the Google Search page. Here is a quote from a Site5 representative:"Upon checking, I can see that the concerned issue is caused when we are trying to access the domains in https when the domain does not have a valid SSL installed, the server is fetching a domain from the same server that has SSL. "Unless you would like to be the default forward for all unsecure websites hosted on the same server, I suggest hosting your business somewhere else.

Avoid this hosting provider

I've had my websites hosted by Site5 since 2012, that's over a decade now. For many years, I thought that the service was fine with a fair price, so I'm embarrassed that I stopped paying attention and have now paid for many years of overpriced, poor service. The worst is the price. I have now transferred to one of the higher-rated web hosts, and my annual fee is about 25% of what Site5 has been charging. Seriously. What a rip-off.For years, I had the problem of not being able to send emails to yahoo accounts. I did everything. I complained, multiple times. I complained on Twitter. Apparently, yahoo was blocking (and may still be blocking) Site5 servers. But I am not sure if the issue was ever resolved and only ever received 'We are working on this problem'. While I had planned to switch providers at the end of my current annual contract, a few weeks away, my breaking point was over the Christmas period, where they moved me to a different server, didn't tell me the name of it (I had to contact the helpdesk when I couldn't send or receive emails), and even then, I had problems, on and off over more than a week. So, I've now switched web hosting providers, thankfully, and my final action is to write this review to warn anyone reading: please don't use Site5. For your sake. There are far better providers.
