Review Time
Just a little background on myself. When things were good for affiliates I probably had over 100 domain names. I have been using various web hosts since 1995. In my time I have used companies like Xilo, Dreamhost, Vidahost, Hostgator, Cyberwurx, Smart Host and Apthost (plus a few more I cannot remember).Last year Apthost were aquired by Site5 who I believe were themselves taken over by somebody else. When My sites were hosted by Apthost things were good. Over the last few months I have noticed slower loading times, I tried to access my Cpanel and it times out, I contacted support who got back to me 4 days later suggesting I use another browser.Needless to say I had already tried this and so I replied politely that my Cpanel was still down and at the time of writing this it has been another 48 hours without a reply. Luckily I can still access my folders and sites via FTP and just minutes ago I finished moving my last site over to a new host.I cannot recommend this company in the slightest, I would have given one star but my sites are live, you could access or visit them although sometimes they were a little slow loading.
I suggest you run of this company, im buy domain using site5.com and then when im find out how bad server he have he not want to transfer my domain to other hosting hes write me email how hes not administrator how im but im never get any admin information about it ! RUN OF THIS COMPANY !
I was a happy client of BlueFur. Then Site5 purchased them. I'm not a happy client of Site5. For weeks they've screwed around with their "transition", ignored support calls, and made administering my account impossible by not providing a working link to their "Backstage" support application. CPanel is partially broken as they've attempted to integrate it with Backstage, but I can't access Backstage. Can't review support tickets. Tickets have gone unanswered for weeks. In general, a complete and utter cockup, courtesy of Site5 management. It's not the staff, they were competent and helpful until Site5 took over.Cancelling account and moving on. Stay the hell away from Site5.
It was a really good service but when it was acquired by EIG in 2015 it became really BAD. Service is really POOR and not to mention, the hostings are overpriced.Stay away from EIG. Servers go down and they give a really bad service.
I had a blog website at this site for over a year. At first, the price seemed a bit reasonable at $15/month. HOWEVER, in the following 3-4 months, they added a new service onto my monthly bill, WHICH I NEVER requested. On top of this, they said my site had heavy usage, and decided to change my monthly plan from $15/month to $65/month. Really??? A simple small blogging website with literally nothing on it but a few text posts and less than 500 visitors a day, I was somehow now worth charging $65/month???????I contacted support NUMEROUS times about what I could possibly do to reduce my usage, that they claimed was so high. They LIED for weeks on end, telling me a bunch of random BS on what I could do to reduce my overall bill.Guess what??? NOTHING I did ever satisfied them in reducing my monthly bill, by even a $1! I made EVERY single change they said would fix my usage problem, as that was the core issue. But everytime I spoke to a new representative, they said the other person didn't know what they we're talking about and gave me a different solution every time. I stayed with them for up to a year (ONLY because I didn't know how to change web hosts & found this intimidating [I'm not a web developer by any means]). FINALLY though, after a year of dealing with their BS lies, I switched over to a different host whom only charges me $4/month!!!! ONLY $4!! I've been with this new host for 4 months now, and they've never once increased my bill or added any additional services without my consent. Site5 is literally scum. They over price the crap out of you, lie to you about possible ways to reduce your bill, but never actually make those payment changes once you complied with everything they've said. And they'll continue to increase your monthly bill over time as they must make the money back from all the customers they must be losing by using this same tactic. "It's because your site is drawing a lot of usage". BS! It's a ***** text blog with minimal posts. This new host is only charging me $4/month and you lied to me for months that I HAD to pay $65/month when it was completely uncalled for.Literal scums, criminals and HIGHLY over priced. I recommend EVERYONE to avoid this place AT ALL COSTS!
I am a Site5 customer for nearly 20 years, ever since I found them through the long gone BeOS community site begroovy.com. I had one hosting solution throughout and several separate ones during those years.Even though Site5 changed ownership several times, I find the service and support remained consistently fantastic. I have tried some other highly reputed providers and found these alternative providers oversold and under-performed, they simply pale in comparison to Site5. Site5 support is simply marvelous. Speedy, top-professional expert responses, they thoroughly identify the root of the problem and they just won't let go of an issue until fully, thoroughly, permanently resolved.
Watch out!
Site5 currently has good service and performance, although the audio quality of their agents isn't good.
However, they were acquired by EIG in 2015. After EIG acquires a hosting company, they migrate the accounts to their own data centers and customer support staff. If you read about problems with Hostgator, Bluehost, iPower, Asmallorange, and many other hosting companies, it was because they are actually EIG.
I tried to get away from the terrible service at EIG's Hostgator brand by going to Site5, but I cancelled my Site5 account as soon as I found out that Site5 was EIG, too. It's a pity, because the little I did deal with them showed the service to be very good. In particular, they answered the phone right away, they had good answers for all of my many questions, and it was easy to cancel and request my refund under their 45-day money-back guarantee. They also have an nice administration panel.
If the service stays as-is, it will be pretty good. However, there's no way to guarantee that EIG won't move the Site5 accounts to their spectacularly slow customer service, spammy e-mail servers, and slow Web hosts.
2018 EDIT: Downtime for over 1 hour, live chat is congested, ticket support is non-existent - this is the last straw for me. I am leaving Site5 and moving elsewhere. I liked the price and I really didn't want to have to migrate elsewhere, but I have no choice now. Feel free to continue reading my older review below.I have been with Site5 since January 2014 and that is surely considered a long-term customer. Unfortunately I've had to completely edit this review as, since their management change to EIG, Site5 has gone so far downhill that I don't think they even know what they're doing.Support has heavily decreased in efficiency and speed, and their servers are going down a lot more frequently. The hosting is really good when it wants to be (especially for cheap, 'unmetered' hosting) and it's usually very good when you don't need to contact support. But I don't ask much of Site5 - my requests are as simple as requesting CSR generations and having IPs/ports whitelisted (which now isn't allowed due to 'security issues', even though before I was allowed to request this which I can prove in previous tickets). If you want a cheap 'unmetered' web host but don't plan to ask for support, go for them - they're really not bad for the price. But it's an awful shame that they had to sell-out to these EIG people as all I hear is nothing but bad things about them, and it's a shame that now it's recently had an effect on me and my site.
