We had been looking for years for chesterfields suitable for the small rooms of our cottage. Standard sizes were too big and manufacturers inflexible on size. Then my wife stumbled upon SW James whilst browsing online. They looked too good to be true (but they weren’t). A really good old-fashioned bespoke furniture company! We made contact with Warren who has taken customer relations to a level seldom met these days. Nothing too much trouble for the guy. We were too far away to have a showroom experience and thought we were being brave by ordering solely from online images. Warren advised and guided our choices and when the sofas arrived we realised that we had (with his help) made all the right decisions regarding style, size and colour. The quality is excellent and the model we chose (Huxley) is very soft and comfortable in both the seat and arms. Couldn’t be more satisfied. Trust all the good reviews!
My partner and I are writing to express our sincere gratitude and delight with our new Huxley Chesterfield sofa. We had been searching for the perfect comfortable, buttery leather Chesterfield, handcrafted in England, and we were so pleased to discover S.W. James based in Bollington.Our private appointment with Warren was an absolute pleasure. He was incredibly knowledgeable, honest, and down-to-earth. He took the time to explain the company's background and walk us through the different sofa styles and leathers. We ultimately chose the Huxley and added a few personal touches.After placing our order and patiently waiting the anticipated eight weeks, the day of delivery arrived. Unfortunately, due to some very tight spaces in our home, the sofa wouldn't fit. However, Warren's dedication didn't end there. He promptly arranged for Neil, the remarkable craftsman behind our Chesterfield, to visit and assess what could be done. The decision was made to expertly remake the sofa into two sections.Within a short time, Neil and his colleague delivered the newly configured sofa, which now sits proudly in our room. We are absolutely thrilled with our Huxley, and it has truly exceeded our expectations. It is incredibly comfortable, the color is rich, and the leather is indeed buttery soft. Every detail of our new Chesterfield, from the pleats and buttoning to the studding and stitching, has been crafted with evident passion and is impeccably made.We cannot thank Neil enough for his exceptional skill as a furniture maker and for making our Chesterfield so perfectly suited to our needs and space. We are incredibly proud of our English heritage and feel so fortunate to own such a beautifully handcrafted piece made right here in England.Thank you all for such a wonderful experience and a truly exceptional piece of furniture.
I spent around 2 years looking for chesterfield styled sofas that would be comfortable as well as the style that I prefer. After having my previous italian leather sofas for over 20 years, I was exceptionally reluctant to let them go and update them.The ordering process and communication from SW James was great during the order and manufacturing process, and I was reassured that they would stay in contact post delivery too, though this hasn't happened as we haven't heard anything from them after delivery.The delivery was professional and in good time (ahead of schedule). When the sofas arrived I noted that some protective pads hadnt been put on all the feet (going onto a wooden floor), though the delivery men just said to mention it to the company and they would likely send them. Thinking we'd get a check in call at some point, I never got around to it, so a minor issue which could have been rectified by myself to be honest by calling the company rather than waiting for them to check in with me.The quality of the products are very good. I personally have felt a little disappointed as they don't quite compare to my previous sofa's. They're not as deep to snuggle into so I find it a struggle to get comfortable. I find the back quite hard but not quite enough room to pad out with decent cushions.However, all that said, they are very well made and I can see that they are likely to last, just not sure I will keep them for the 20+ years like my previous ones. Though I realise I am very picky with furniture and took a punt by ordering via internet research rather than making the long journey to go and actually sit on them in person.
After an excellent discussion or two covering options, changes, etc. with Warren, I decided to purchase Sterling Antique Leather Chesterfield sofa and two Dorothy Wing Chairs Antique red. Warren kept me informed of progress and the delivery was earlier than expected which itself was done with care. Also, the sofa feet were changed on delivery and look better aligned with the chairs. The quality of the product is superb, fantastic craftmanship and an all-round excellent service. If you have the money, I would strongly recommend S.W.James for a long-lasting product that will significantly enhance your room.
Having spent many months trawling the big stores and online for a new leather sofa, I finally opted to go with S. W. James. This was the best decision I have ever made, from requesting the leather samples which arrived very quickly I could see that both the quality and colour of the leather was way better than any other I had seen. Having dogs this was essential.My next concern was would the company have a sofa that would fit through the very narrow front door and hall of our Victorian terrace, after many emails, measurements, photos and phone conversations with Warren I felt reassured that my choice of sofa (Atticus corner sofa) should fit. The Order placed, I was kept informed of progress through out the build process the front door / hall way and were quickly in place, however the corner section of my new sofa objected and try as the delivery men might, it refused to fit through the front door, it was a couple of cms too wide. As you can imagine I was gutted, however a quick phone call was made, and the corner section was dispatched back the workshop to be adapted, at no extra cost. Two weeks later, S.W. James’s Dispatched Neil on the lengthy journey back to Kent, to fit the now adapted corner section. Any concerns were very quickly dispelled it slid through the door and was fitted to it counter sections with in minutes. Whilst it has been a bit of an extended journey to get the sofa of my dreams, I am more blown away by the quality and look of my new sofa than I could have imagined.If you are starting out on you new sofa search I can highly recommend S.W. James, I can honestly say from personal experience they go above and beyond to ensure that their customers feel valued and receive a quality leather sofa that is unbelievably comfortable. I think you would hard pushed to find a company who will proved the same level of service, care and attention to detail. I’m so impressed that I am now considering purchasing a wing chair and footrest. My only regret was not living closer to the factory/ workshops, to be able to go and visit their showroom.
