Re: “African Sponge”:AVOID this item. As some of West-African descent that purchased it, it’s: 1) completely inauthentic 2) a fraction of the size of an actual authentic African sponge. They are scamming people and when you request to send it back they keep putting obstacles in the way - via endless, drawn out emails! AVOID this company = AVOIDING disappointment!
Absolutely fraud. They aren't made or sourced in Nigeria. They aren't being shipped from USA or Canada or Nigeria. It is a Chinese company. The delays in shipment are horrendous and when you buy them they automatically sign you up for a monthly membership. Absolute garbage company.
My wife made a purchase from this store in July and since then she has been charged £23 a month without her agreeing to any subscriptions. I just looked through the site and it isn’t hidden, there is just genuinely no indication of signing up to any subscriptions. The checkout process looks like just a one time purchase, yet they charge you monthly for some unknown reason. Please report this to your bank and issue a chargeback. Contact shopify and advise them of this if it has happened to you too
Watch out for scam membership! Everything about this company is a scam. There are at least 3 different addresses associated with the company in 3 different states. Using Google street view, none of these look like legitimate offices. The products take forever to get to you and turns out they're all shipped from China. They aren't nearly as good as the cheap knockoff version. And when you order, some VIP membership thing is automatically added to your cart. The product name says FREE so you don't think much about it. Then a month later you get charged $30 for nothing. There's nothing on their site to show you what this supposed membership is for and the only way to cancel is through an email contact form. Still waiting to hear back and not expecting much, but will definitely be disputing the charge. Luckily I used a virtual card number so my actual credit card doesn't have to be cancelled to prevent future charges. Do not buy from this scam company.
I bought some of their net sponges for myself and as gifts. The estimated arrival was approx 4 days. The fast delivery was part of why I made the purchase. It took almost a month and multiple excuses from the company to arrive. I noticed that as I checked out they make it look like you receive a "gift" with your purchase. Well folks, that "gift" is an automatic subscription that you haven't asked for or signed up for. All of a sudden they are charging me for the same order I made and sending 4 more sponges! I told them I did not order these and to cancel the order. They have been very politely stalling, taking extended amounts of time to answer, and when they finally do respond, they are intentionally ignoring my request to cancel the order and refund my money. I have asked multiple times and they have not once addressed it. As I write this I am on hold with my bank's fraud department to get this transaction reversed and try to block them from being able to complete any future transactions because I don't trust that Afroscrub will do it on their end. DO NOT BUY FROM THIS COMPANY! There are other retailers that you can buy african net sponges from that are reputable and do not do shady things like Glownetic does. Do yourself a favor so you don't end up sitting on hold with the fraud department of your bank, DON'T SHOP AT AFROSCRUB!!!!!!!!!
This company has been taking $29.99 from my account every month since July 2025 for a subscription I NEVER signed up for. On top of that, they added international transaction fees each time.When I tried calling the telephone number posted on their website, my calls were dropped after selecting each prompt. I finally got in touch with someone via email and they only refunded the subscription charges — but not the international fees that their unauthorized billing caused. That means I’m still out money because of THEIR mistake.This feels like a scam operation. Be warned: even if you manage to get a refund, you may not get all your money back. I would strongly advise avoiding Afroscrub and protecting your financial information.
A $0.00 “Premium VIP Support & Early Access to New Product Launches” will be added to your shopping cart that CANNOT be removed. I thought nothing of it but this will result in a monthly subscription fee being charged to the card you paid with. To cancel this PLEASE contact your bank and report for fraud. Do not just cancel your card and order a one without reporting this to your bank as the merchant will be able to obtain your new card details unless you sever the tie between them. If you contact your bank and report fraudulent activity they will be able to completely sever ties with this merchant to prevent further transactions occurring. Do not bother trying to contact Afro Scrub to cancel your “membership subscription”. They will not help you.
Like many others, I too have been charged NZ$51 for a VIP subscription that I never asked for or authorized. I did receive my order however it came from China. I have emailed and filled out the form about the charge I dadnt authorize, and will now call my bank tomorrow after seeing all these other reviews.
They add on this VIP membership charging close to $50 Australian a month for absolutely nothing. You don't receive help, emails or any extra products. It's an absolute scam. Have disputed with my bank and have to cancel all my cards and have them reissued.
