Dont do it

Dont do it. Again Do not do it. Do not rent a car from Hertz in Spain. I rented a BMW 3 series for a 12 day roadtrip. Paid for a premium category. They told me a Subaru was equal in class and switched me. Not what i had in mind. Plus added charges. Same thing happened to many others at Madrid airport counter. I left after 30 minutes. Went to Sixt counter. Received excellent caring service.I expect things like this from small time companies in third world countries. I guess that is why Hertz went bankrupt a few years back and likely will do so again

What a horrific experience

What a horrific experience. Do not rent from Hertz Espana! - We were convinced to get insurance which didn't end up covering anything- We were 'sold' an upgrade which was decidedly less convenient because our car 'wasn't ready'- We were charged over 200 euros in damages for a 2mm paint chip that should have been covered at no cost (assuming it happened while we had the car; they aren't willing to show whether it actually happened or not while we had the car)I could go on and on, but you get the point ... expect to pay 1,000 euros beyond what you thought you were if you rent with Hertz. We submitted a complaint and the response was "all charges are correct".

Please be careful about this company

Please be careful about this company. I rented in Oviedo, Asturias. They came up with ghost charges, they will refuse to print your final bill on the spot and then I include unauthorized foreign transaction fees. Be careful. They are a scam.

BEWARE

BEWARE - Collected a hertz rental car at Almeria airport Spain recently, checked pre-damage inspection report with vehicle and noticed a very small scuff on rear wheel rim not listed. Reported scuff to hertz representative on site who assured me the damage was too small and minor to list and not to worry about it. Returned vehicle week later to find no hertz rep available in vehicle return zone or in the hertz airport office, so left key in drop box and took flight home. Next day received email from hertz with damage invoice for the scuff on rear wheel rim. Disputed invoice but still received an additional credit card charge for 126 euros. Feel like I’ve been scammed, will have to pursue credit card company for refund now, like we got the time right BEWARE

Just adding the same story as everybody…

Just adding the same story as everybody else really. HERTZ MALAGA greeted by the most miserable female god created picked up my pre booked car that wasn’t what I had paid for online. 3 day hire took the car back unfortunately for me the same rude miserable member of staff to hand the car back. Filed the car to the brim and even got it washed down before taking it back. She points out the same small scuff on the door I picked it up with and told me all was ok. By the time we land at home there is an email saying I had caused damage and would be charged. 24hrs later £439.28 pounds and £430.81 pounds out of my account absolute rip off and now taking legal advice. Couldn’t be a worse company to deal with. How legally are they still trading.

Hertz makes money with made up penalties

On pick up they offered an upgrade to what we had booked, claiming that it was a bigger car and we didn't have to fill up the tank so we took it. When we were given the car, it had scratches all over it that where very difficult to compare to what they say they have on their report as this report was in paper format, in black and white and very poor photo quality. Unfortunately we did not take pictures ourselves (big mistake). When we started the car, the dashboard immediately showed a warning for "Service required". Upon return, they immediately pointed out at one of the scratches and claimed it was new because it didn't appear in their (very deficient) report. Totally impossible as this was a scratch clearly made while driving and taking a turn too sharply against a wall or similar, something that we would have noticed! After spending a long time arguing with the guy (and risking missing our flight) we ended up having to pay 96 € for something we did not do. Terrible experience. Never renting from Hertz again.

Charged for a scratch we didn't make

Just returned a car we rented for half a day. As soon as we got back two assistants went to inspect the car, immediately went to the front spoiler and pointed out a tiny scratch on the paintwork we were not responsible for. They said we owed them over 150 euros. The car hire was cheap -- now we know why. Avoid.

Billing Issues

We had no issues with the actual car we were provided by Firefly. It was a SEAT Arona in nice condition. We rented for 19 days out of Malaga from March 14 to April 2, 2023.I don't like the fact that you are billed for a full tank of gas [in my case 65.16 euros] and then told to bring it back empty i.e. not a "full to full basis" -leave full bring back full. Inevitably you are being billed for gas you don't use. I would expect this of a shady operation not Hertz. I was aware of this and brought the car back virtually empty but I was certainly paying for gas I didn't use. I drove into Granada and wandered into an area that is restricted. I literally was 50 feet into this area before I realized my mistake and retreated. (I was following a service truck that is permitted in this area) I was fined 38 euros [via traffic camera] Granada is notorious for dinging tourists who make this very common mistake. Be warned -Granada is an absolute nightmare for driving. [I have driven in over 80 countries and hundreds of major cities plus I lived in Paris so I am very experienced driving in challenging places]Hertz passed along to me via email the traffic offence. Hertz has now notified me today that they will charge my credit card an additional 40 euros as an admin fee. Per Hertz I agreed to this when I signed the Rental Agreement. This charge was inserted by hand and I read it as 10 euros (not 40). 40 euros is an onerous fee and basically a way to exploit their customer. Charging a customer 40 euros for passing along a traffic infraction is excessive.Hertz also hit me with an additional fee of 78.84 euros as a senior driver (over 70) when I picked up the car. Again I think they have a responsibility to disclose the actual senior charge at the time of the reservation. I booked through a third party who were not provided this information. When you arrive to pick up your car -especially after a long flight -you are in a very vulnerable position. You basically are forced to agree to some very onerous terms in order to get a car. When I booked the vehicle through EconomyBookings.com the 'pay on arrival' was to be 154.28 euros and this included local taxes. This was escalated to 389.30 euros at pickup through multiple additional charges (gas/senior/service charge/taxes etc) Several of these additional charges were supposed to be included in my fee of 154.28 euros.I am addressing this matter further with EconomyBookings and Hertz.
