NEVER rent from Hertz Lanzarote

Rented a car at Hertz Lanzarote, what a scam. It had 20 damages on all sides. Pick-up was at 10pm night with the family tired and waiting. Upon return it, magically had 22 damages and we were charged €240 extra taken from the deposit and the lady was RUDE. Next time they will rent it out with 22 damages and so forth - Used to be a frequent traveller and Hertz Gold Member. I had expected more from Hertz... Will never rent from them again. Shame on them. 0 OUT OF 5 STARS. Complained to their customer service multiple times Referenznummer 15902503 - never heard back until I put it on Trustpilot.... then they write they will contact you, but don't.December 30th update: Hertz España asked for my contact details via Trustpilot. Hereby submitted and awaiting contact. Thank you Trustpilot for making Hertz España taking me serious. More updates to follow.January 7th update: Still no contact from Hertz…… Chiara?February 8th update: Still no contact from Hertz Espana, what a joke....

Rip off !!!

Rip off !!!! Hired an Opel corsa for pick up at Gran Caneria airport, on arival we were given a totaly crap Kia Rio.When we returned it the operative walked around looking at it and found a 'new' small 15mm scratch on the rear bumper that he claimed was not there before and demanded that we pay 185 Euros immediatly as damages.When we pointed out that there were 4 or 5 other previous sctatches already on the bumper he wasn't interested, claimed that this was medium damage and insisted that we pay.As Hertz had a significant amount blocked off on our credit card and we had an aeroplane to catch we had no choice but to pay upBy the time Hertz move the car on it will probably have paid most of its initial cost with scratches alone!This judging by the previous reviews is obviously a well practised scam and I could only advise you to use another company.Re. their reply below, they have NOT asked for any further info! This is their standard reply, check out what they say to other people. now they will be complaining to trust pilot that I have not replied and ask that my review be removed.Nasty horible company !!!

Hertz Spain Untrustworthy - Scamming €218.50 on Dropoff

I rented a car from MAD airport from Hertz on 29 Sept through a Gold Member pickup with a drop off at the train station in Madrid. When I dropped it off we didn't have much time to catch our train and I left the keys at the counter. Which as Hertz Gold Member is usually the way I do it - it allows for fast pickup and dropoff. I've rented this way many times and all other Gold rentals I've had have gone smoothly in North America, UK and Mexico.Except this one. After dropping off I received an email that they were charging for a €218.50 for scratch on the bumper and a chip in the windshield. Its a total scam that I've never seen from Hertz even in Mexico where I rented as a Gold member in spring 2022.

I need to pay a fine

I need to pay a fine. However, the online gateway doesn't work. All the email addresses are no reply and the online payment didn't work.It was impossible to get in contact with Hertz, or pay fine as the online system doesn't work and there is no way of contacting anybody working at Hertz.

Scammers

Like many other reviewers, experienced the scam that Hertz / Thrify Gran Canaria pull on many customers. We recived a very dirty car, with considerable body work damage. Poor quality black and white photographs accompanied our hire documents showing existing damage. On our return, the man at the counter quickly found 2 tiny scratches (both less than 1 cm in length) that he said were new - both conveniently located in an area that previous photos did not cover. One was showing signs of rust - i.e. could not be a new scratch from the week's hire!Forced to pay EUR 160 before we could leave (taking advantage that of the fact that we had a flight to catch).Avoid

Avoid Hertz Espana!

Nearly same story like Allan Waters (1.July 2022). I booked a car via holiday autos with a "return-the-car-with-full-tank"-rule. Picking up the car at Bilbao Airport we had to wait for 90 minutes (with two small children). Not surprising this made me inattentive when signing the contract - so formally I accepted a fuel purchase option for 116 Euro without being aware of it (I was NOT explicitly verbally asked for the option). In german language we call it "unterjubeln" - putting something in a written contract expecting that the other party doesn't take notice. Therefore I returned the car with a full tank. I noticed the issue a few day later and wrote an email to Hertz Espana. I was getting an answer from India, that it was legally correct to charge the fuel option because I have accepted it. There was no refund although I was sending the receipt of the petrol station. All in all the message is: We (Hertz Espana) are interested making additional money with inattentive customers. We are not interested to find a FAIR solution. By the way: Holiday Autos was quick & supportive - at least this was a positive experience.UPDATE 5.9.: Due to the engagement by holiday autos (and may be influenced by this Trustpilot review) Hertz Espana at the end decided to pay back the fee for the fuel option. Conclusion: One has to fight for it, but obviously there are at least some people working for Hertz having some sense for fairness...

Rental Barcelona Airport - Avoid

Avoid. Pick up process was smooth but when I returned the car, I was told by the guy to just give the keys and I will receive the receipt later. Results: I got charged 3 TIMES the price per day. When asking the customer service, I was told it was because I returned the car 1 hour EARLIER! I did not expect this behavior from a company like Hertz. Absolute rip off. Even worse the customer service.

Unexplained unauthorized charges

I rented a car from Hertz at the airport in Madrid. I returned the car and finalized the bill. Everything was correct at that time. Two months later I received a notice in Spanish, that my credit card was charged a penalty. This was a month ago, and I have received no explanation for the unauthorized charge despite multiple e-mails.Update: despite the public response to my review 2 weeks ago, Hertz has not reached out to me.

Pray that everything goes well, cause otherwise you lose money.

I rented a car in Barcelona, purchased extra insurance and was charged a deposit for fuel. I returned the car in perfect conditions and with a full tank and was expecting my deposit to be returned. 3 months later I still don't have my money back even though they confirmed that everything was in perfect order and the tank full. Their customer service doesn't answer emails. I contacted the customer care in Spain, UK. I contacted them via Twitter & web chat. Nothing... I asked to send me the contacts for their legal team. Nothing.
