Horrible experience

Horrible experience. Don't trust this company. Extra fees out of nowhere that they never informed you. Customer service doesn't answer the phone, chat can't help you. It's a big "f you."

They would do anything to rob you out of your money

I rented a car from Hertz Gran Canaria on 4 June 2022. Picked it up from airport with no much waiting. As usual I took pictures of anything significant in the body of the car just in case. On returning the car to Hertz in Las Palmas airport, Hertz agent asked if I took insurance on the excess and I said no and added that I took pictures of any significant or visible damage to the body of the car. He immediately proceeded to a certain area on the passenger side front door and started taking pictures and said how about that damage? I could hardly see anything there so he shone his torch on it and there was a 3mm very superficial scratch that the more I rubbed on it with a piece of tissue the less visible it became. He asked me to pay 140 Euros on the spot and when I said there is nothing here to be mended, he said "you are right this is nothing, don't worry". I just discovered when I received my credit card statement that they have charged 140 Euros. How did he home on into that invisible "damage"? I can only guess that this area was known to him and was used not only on me but on many clients before me and will be used also to cheat people out of their hard earned money after me. This is fraud with all the meaning of the word. I will never rent from them again and would not advice anyone to do.

Beware fuel policy and other hidden charges

Very disappointed with my recent experience renting a car from Hertz at Barcelona airport terminal 2. When I returned the car I was charged an extra 80EUR which included 18EUR "location surcharge" and the rest was for a full tank of fuel, despite me returning the car with a nearly full tank. When I queried this with Hertz I was advised I had agreed to the "fuel purchase option" despite my rental agreement (booked via a 3rd party, economybookings.com) stating a full to full fuel policy. I was advised I could only be reimbursed for the extra fuel I had put in the tank if I provided a receipt as evidence of the purchase amount (I'm dealing with this 2 weeks after returning the car and don't have the receipt). Otherwise I have to say the car was great, and the staff at the counter were very nice. My main issue has been with the hidden charges which seem to be a deliberate attempt by the company to deceive customers into paying more money. I'd advise anyone renting from Hertz to be very careful with reading the small print regarding the fuel policy and save any receipts.

Terrible experience

For the second time in a row I had a terrible experience with Proa Hertz in the Balearic Islands. I didn’t buy their expensive excess insurance, so when I returned the car, they “found” some scratches that they claim weren’t there before (which they evidently were), but they very quickly explained that they will give me all the paperwork to claim back the expense to my insurance company so I shouldn’t worry about it. It is the second time they have done this and the process seems a very well oiled machine, it seems remarkably like an insurance fraud scheme. This time the car was most of the time in a garage and I am 100% sure the scratches didn’t happen in the 2 days I had the car but naively I trusted them to be a serious company and didn’t film/photograph the whole car before taking it. These are not serious people and I’d recommend anyone renting cars in either Palma de Mallorca or Ibiza (I saw the scheme in action in both places) to use a different company.

Hertz is a disgracefully dishonest…

Hertz is a disgracefully dishonest company.1) They emailed me images of a black car to accompany their report of pre-hire damage. When the car turned up, same model with the same number plate, it was white!2) They failed to refix the rear number plate correctly, as a result of which it fell off during the hire. It was only by great good fortune that the owner of the house where I was staying found the plate on the road. Ridiculously, Hertz are trying to charge me for "damage", picking up the number plate they failed to fix properly.3) Hertz keeps advertising the Fiat 500 on its website when their operatives in Malaga openly admit they don't have any of these models available for hire and haven't had any. Shabby dishonesty by a shabby company.

Hertz Barcelona Airport is Fraudulent!

PLEASE HEED ALL OF THE NEGATIVE REVIEWS!!When I picked up our rental car, it already had damage. The rental agent said not to worry about it as he had just reported all the damage and I didn't need to take any pictures. This seemed suspicious, so I took a bunch of pictures and a complete walk around video. I thought the photo evidence might protect me(it did not). A couple of days after the rental began, I received an email stating that there was no damage to the car when I received it. This was not just a little oversight. This is fraud. When I returned the car I was told to just handover the keys, and they would take care of the rest. A few hours later, I received a credit card charge of $500 for damage to a car that I didn't cause. I reached out to Hertz executive customer service, and they said that their policies were precisely followed and I had no recourse. They were not interested at all in any photographic evidence. By the time we had paid for all the extra insurance and fees, our rental was nearly twice as much as what we were told through Priceline. We thought all that extra insurance would cover us and prevent problems. It did not! Hertz wanted $500 more. Please read all these negative reviews and realize there is a good chance this will happen to you. You may think you are taking every precaution (like I did), but they will screw you. Look how often this happens. Their corporate office will back them up and you will be told by a very nice lady that you have no recourse. Please heed all of these warnings!! I wish I would have!!

Undocumented existing damage!

So this is how this globally recognised corporation goes about it's business! I, as a customer, was presented with a vehicle that for unexplained reasons had undocumented but immediately noticeable damage. I should have walked away at this point but instead I brought it to the attention of the staff on duty who were entirely dismissive. Even arguing that a dented door was not in fact a dent at all. Yet when I returned the vehicle the same day I was charged 50 euros to 'assess' a mark! Not a scratch, not a dent but a mark which they then happened to notice. When I protested that it was there before but I had (my error) thought insignificant in light of what they had previously dismissed as nothing, it was explained to me that I should have noticed. Yet they themselves had set the precedent by providing me with a vehicle that they had supposedly not noticed was damaged and to a far greater degree!!Absolute scandalous behaviour from a firm that I had thought better of.Customers enter into what they rightly expect to be a fair and honest exchange and yet this company has seemingly knowingly set them up from the outset. I am livid!!

Hertz are deliberatly trying to scam you

Richard Smiths reviews from Lanzarote April 14th. Is identical with my experiences from April 17th on Gran Canaria! Picking up the car in a dark garage, it was located mulitple schratches that was not marked in the rental papers I got. When leaving the car they did excatly what Richard Smith experienced. "Found" a extremly smal schratch on the door an claimed it was because someone must have hit it with their door while pariking. And charged over 100 euros! A 1-2 mm schrach! Almost impossible to detect, and among the 9 others (bigger) that was registrated after I complained at the pick up. I pointed this out, showed them all the photograps they had been documenting themselves (after I complained, before leaving the pick up area). I was met with just arrogance. Hearing this has happened before make it seem like a deliberate scam from the company and/or its employees, and should be investigated. No need to tell I will not use them again!
