Disappointing Experience after years of satisfaction

I've been a loyal Safelite customer for years and have always been pleased with their windshield repairs—until now. I understand that a windshield repair may not be flawless, but in the past, there's always been a noticeable improvement. Unfortunately, this time, I can’t even tell a repair was done. The crack looks just as bad as before, like someone dropped a rock on it.The technician mentioned that he’d only been doing this for a year and that the team was mostly new. He also said they were no longer allowed to use the same repair methods as before, which I found concerning. When I called customer service, I was told my only option now was to replace the entire windshield, even though it's just a small 1-inch star crack. This is extremely disappointing, especially after years of positive experiences with Safelite. I expected better.

I sure wish I had seen these reviews…

I sure wish I had seen these reviews before making my appointment, the bottom line is, I made an appointment with Safelite, they quickly agreed to a time and a day, and then the night before they were supposed to show, they told me they don't have the auto glass and they can do the job!! after I scheduled my whole week around them coming, very disappointing and frustrating buyer beware!

I hear so much about Safelite and…

I hear so much about Safelite and thought it was a great place to take and have my windshield replaced. But when it came to replacing it from the warranty because the windshield cracked they of course made it my fault that a rock had hit the window. That is not the fact but of course they don't want to make a replacement on their warranty. I will never go back to this company to have a windshield replaced. Now I have to replace the one that they put in and I have another vehicle that needs windshield too bad they've lost the customer I will definitely go somewhere else anytime I need a new windshield. I will never come back to this company. They don't honor their warranties.

They were terrible

They were terrible. I set an appt. They gave me a 4 hour window. The tech did not show, and did not call to say if he be late. So I called safelite. I was on hold for 10 minutes. Finally spoke to an agent who said she would call the tech and see where he was. Put me on hold for 5 more mins. Then hung up on me. I’ll get my glass repair elsewhere. You should too. Wasted half my day and now I have to find another provider.

One of the worst experiences …

One of the worst experiences I’ve ever had with a business. After reading all the reviews below I see this is their normal way of doing business. We had a windshield installed in our Lexus. With in a few weeks we noticed it was whistling when on the highway , then one of the flaps started blowing loose and we noticed it flapping on the car. We took the car back and they resealed the area that was whistling re-glued the flap. Time went on …. A couple of weeks back we started having random lights show up on our dash indicating warnings with brakes. We immediately took it to Parkplace. The next day after evaluating it they noticed the windshield was installed improperly and had been leaking over time. The water had shorted out the electical system causing all the warning lights. They also looked under the carpet to find moisture under there as well. As you have all stated in reviews you can not get anyone to answer the phones at their locations. So, My husband and I drove over to safelite to explain the issue. They seemed very helpful told us no worries the windshield has a lifetime warranty on installation. They sent out a man name hector to look at the windshield and find where the leak is. Hector takes it out in the parking lot and resets the windshield and fixes an area that we were told was not cut right. Parkplace sends us the estimate to fix all wiring and dry carpet. By this time we have now been on day 11 and can not get anyone at Safelite to call us back or even answer the phones so we proceed to drive back to the location where we show John the manager the estimates. He says his supervisor Christopher Sazo said it was all covered. We ok Parkplace to fix it. We mention that once we thought we had left a window open in our car because we noticed some water after a rain but have never left the car outside much. We said we had brought it in for a whistle and flap coming off after it was installed and John says I see that while lookig at his computer. Says That happens a lot after install. We ask for supervisors information. The only thing John will give us is a piece of paper with a phone number ( that’s a call center) and three emails one being Christopher Sazo the supervisor. So we send an email and the estimates to him and explain the whole issues. Also in email Mention the once rain and thought we had left a window cracked but now wonder if this was it. We get a very cover out A__ email from Christopher saying because we didn’t let them know it leaked with in a certain time spam they would not cover anything. We had no idea it was leaking. Of course had we known we would of been right in to have them fix it !!!!! We are unable to reach anyone by phone but they will send emails. We are not done with this …as they are not honoring their warranty. When it is an enternal leak inside you don’t know ! If we had known it was causing damage to our car we would of most definitely taken the car to them to Fix. March 20-2025 - As you see below they sent a reply. It’s an automated reply as I got the same reply to the google review . Exact wording and no one has ever reached back out to us. But I do have an update. When the safelite inspector went to Parkplace to look at the windshield at their shop standing next to the Parkplace technician they both noticed it was missing the Urethane in the area we had the leak. The technician said their was none. So Hector grain safelite took it to the back of their lot and added it. There was none in that one area that was leaking. We sent another email to Chris Sazo the rest of the emails on his thread and no reply back from any of them and no return calls fromAnyone. They still say since I didn’t report moisture early on they won’t cover it. Well we didn’t know we had a problem. Why we had the warranty !!!!!

Everything was excellent until…..

Everything was excellent until I actually showed up. Had a rock chip turned into a major crack, contacted Safelite via their website and scheduling tool. Without actually talking to a person they had contacted my insurance company filed a claim and set up a time for me to get my windshield replaced. Then I showed up 15 minutes early like they suggested.P sitting in the lobby for over 45 minutes my car still had not been taken into the shop. However, a person who came in after me got their car in right away. When I complained about that, I was told that they had a minor issue and that they were going to take care of them first. Even though I had been there almost 20 minutes longer than them. they told me that it was going to be an hour and a half to change the glass in an hour and a half to recalibrate the system. I had dinner plans three hours from when I was originally scheduled and now it was going on 45 minutes after my original appointment and they still hadn’t touched my car. People were generally short with me they apologized, but it didn’t seem like they were remotely sincere after reading all the reviews here I wish I would’ve read them first I wouldn’t have wasted my time taking an afternoon off of work only to have them not consider my time at all. Went to a local vendor that does the same thing that they do was informed that the process only takes an hour and a half tops for everything. And also was quoted a much cheaper price so so don’t believe the jingle on the commercial. Perhaps the worst customer service experience I’ve had and I spent a career in the service industry. If it’s at all possible, don’t use these guys.

Hard to imagine a worse experience…

Hard for me to imagine a worse overall experience-- I would have been much better off never having interacted with Safelite and just living with the crack in my windshield! Erroneously believing they were auto glass experts, I brought my car in to the Safelite shop to replace a broken (cracked) windshield. But I got my car back with a whole bunch of OTHER things carelessly broken and damaged, damage I have to live with because the replacement parts are no longer made for my car. I will be very sure to go elsewhere the next time I need auto glass work!It started with an initial windshield replacement appointment—set in-person at the shop—that required me to take time off work. I then was advised over the preceding weekend it was necessary to reschedule the appointment as the windshield had not yet arrived to the store. Ironically I still received an automated confirmation of my original appointment date and time, but now I had to take more time off of work for a second appointment. On Monday 3/10/25, I brought my car to the Safelite shop on East Ridge Road in Irondequoit, NY to have my windshield replaced onsite and in-shop. To my shock and disbelief, an unbelievable amount of totally preventable damage was done to my car in the process of changing the windshield. What got damaged…? 1. The wiring for the radio antenna was so damaged the radio would no longer tune in my stations (I immediately returned to the Safelite shop to advise them of this damage, but they were not able to correct the problem)2. The paint got scratched on the upper fender3. The paint got chipped on the upper edges of both front doors4. Interior plastic trim got scratched5. Sections of the door weatherstripping were needlessly cut / damaged and left jagged 6. Plastic finish trim removed to change the windshield was reinstalled improperly such that it got caught in the hood hinges and deformed, and as a result the hood wouldn't close properly7. The wiper arms got gouged up during removal8. The new rubber windshield surround molding fits poorly against other trim on the carI relied on the recommendation of my national auto insurance company thinking the entire process would be fast and easy, but instead I was left with MORE problems and MORE damage to deal with than before I brought my car in to Safelite! What’s worse was I brought my car for in-shop service to ensure the best possible service in a heated and fully-equipped shop, but instead it was a disaster. The morning after this awful experience, I called in to Safelite corporate customer care to inform them of my profoundly negative experience, including sending before-and-after pictures clearly showing the extent of damage done to my car. The customer care rep said my concerns would be forwarded to the store manager and regional manager to address. A full week after the damage was done, I finally heard from the assistant manager from the store. I politely informed the assistant manager I was not interested in returning to make a “Warranty” claim, an exercise in futility and wasted time since the damaged parts of my car are no longer even made and really can’t be replaced. And after the extensive damage Safelite did to my vehicle the first time around, I would never trust or allow them to touch or work on my car again anyway. I also politely turned down an unspecified offer of compensation since no amount of money could undo what had been done, it was more about ensuring that no one else would ever have to go through what I did. Based on my abysmal experience, protect yourself and avoid heartache and headaches-- don’t choose Safelite for your auto glass replacement needs.

Bait-and-Switch

I made an appointment online and was quoted about $500 to have my windshield replaced. During the reservation I entered my vehicle information (including the VIN), so Safelite had every bit of data they needed for my quote. About 20 minutes after my appointment was confirmed, I get an email saying that there was advanced safety procedures needed. I called to get an updated quote, and now the cost was almost $1,000. Somehow, the cost doubled even though they had all of my vehicle information at the time of the appointment confirmation. Absolutely bait-and-switch.

1 star is too good!

1 star is too good!! Technician stated the crack was too small to repair. I turn away for a minute to answer a call and turned back and window is destroyed. Technician stated he tried to make crack bigger to attempt to fix and now was unable to repair. Instructed to bring car in to shop to install new window. Catch to this is…. Its costs more to recalibrate the electronics than to replace window but they’ll only do both, not just do window replacement. Thieves!!! A complete set up from the beginning!! Found another independent glass shop and for 550.00, half the price of SafeLite, I get a new windshield and technician states the car self calibrates the electronics on its own.Safelite sucks and beware of these crooks!!
