Empathy – a hugely important word when dealing with distraught parents of animals, and one that was sadly lacking in the vet who broke the devastating news about our cat, Yellow Collar. The female vet who telephoned us cheerfully told us that the results of Yellow Collar’s blood test showed a slight rise in bilirubin, but were otherwise quite good. She then asked jovially how our cat got such a strange name. Naturally, her lightness of mood filled us with hope, making us think that our precious cat could be cured. When I explained how he got his name, she laughed and said it was a funny story. Then, still sounding very upbeat, she delivered devastating news, saying that the scan showed enlarged, deformed intestine with multiple tumours of cancers unknown, ie Yellow Collar was dying.Naturally, we were confused and devastated by this, and, in a zombified state, made our way back to Bolton to say our final goodbyes. On arrival, we were met by a male vet who said that he had not treated Yellow Collar, but had been authorized to conduct the euthanization. This man was considerate and kind – nothing like the woman who had delivered the terrible news. But when he left us alone to open Yellow Collar’s carrier, we were further horrified to see how terrified and traumatized our sweet cat was. He cowered in the back of his carrier, his eyes locked on the door, so much so that my brother had to lift him out. I had particularly asked the vet of the previous night (who was also considerate) to ensure that Yellow Collar was treated sympathetically, because love and tenderness was all he had ever known. We will always be haunted by Yellow Collar’s terror, and thoughts of what was done to him to cause it. And despite the huge amount of money we spent trying to save him, we will always feel that we let him down in his final days.As for the female vet who delivered the news, her attitude can only be described as vindictive and downright cruel. In our opinion, this female vet desperately needs a remedial course in compassion when dealing with BOTH animals and owners.
Not for profit, give me a break, they're just like any other vet.Go on Companies House, their latest accounts show a retained surplus of £1,500,000.00. I wondered why they wasn't registered as a charity. They have bled me and my poor sick dog dry. An operation three previous consultations and £750 bill no diagnosis.Take some advise, avoid!!Update!!Our poor little dog has been put down today by another vet who gave us the bottom line. Animal Trust gave us a couple of options the other day (last consultation) and all involved more expenditure, and one of the options wasn't euthanasia. I wonder why, termination of their revenue stream?? Our little dogs new vet was brutally honest with us, that's what we needed.I'm livid, quite honestly fuming, he's suffered for eight weeks because of their "business model" grab grab grab. I truly despise them.
This vetinary practice is absolutely amazing. Two recent visits, first for our dog with a damaged salivary gland, couldn't find another vet in Shrewsbury to sort it out, but Ed, at The Animal Trust managed to operate on him, and he's doing amazingly well. Second dog, very elderly rottweiler, sadly at the end of her life, was treated with so much compassion and care, can't thank them enough. Would recommend to everyone. Absolutely amazing practice.
sent me a bill and a threatning letter for a £22 bill for treatment of my dog who died 3 weeks before how the hell is that possible?my dog was dead so how the hell did they see my dog?dog died 4th january they say they seen him 4 times after that bullshitters
Back in may I took my 15 year old cat for an end of life consultation at the Bolton animal trust. There was absolutely no compassion or sympathy from any of the staff. When called through to the consultation room the vet we saw left the door open and very loudly came out with ‘so you want to put your cat to sleep’ whilst other people were in walking past the room. Both myself and my mum were disgusted with how the vet acted, especially since this was the first time either of us were going through this experience. The vet seemed to care more about how much it would cost for us to have our cat put to sleep than us being upset. We were told it was £250 to keep her ashes, we then asked for a paw print and was told it was an additional cost for them to do that which I was completely baffled by. Once the vet had taken out to the back room we were just left stood waiting for him to comeback. And when he did he manhandled our cat and trapped her tail in the cat carrier. After he had administered the medication to help her go to sleep, he check to see if she had passed, never once apologised or showed any from of sympathy towards myself or my mum. After 5 minutes of her passing we were told they were closing and that our cat would be placed with other pets to be cremated. There was absolutely no compassion from this place! And I will never be coming back here again they should be disgusted with the way they treat their clients that come through the doors!
I am only leaving one star so I can write a review about the vet Daniel at animal trust Dewsbury. It took me two hours to get to my appointment to be spoken to in such a rude and aggressive manner. He didn’t want to answer of my questions, which I found very strange! I found him very stern, unprofessional and not at all empathetic to me or my dog, he obviously doesn't like dogs! My dog was already anxious and Daniel upset me by being rude. He hasn’t got a clue how to approach an anxious dog. I found Daniel to be aggressive with the instrument that he was going to use! as he Slammed it back on the wall saying no I’m not going to examine him! Then he said that I wouldn’t let him. Really! He didn’t want to examine my dog, he couldn’t be bothered he said he wanted to go home. I don’t understand how he can be a vet when he is so unprofessional and has no empathy! This is not just my opinion but two other clients that were in the surgery too. They said they had seen this vet before and he was rude! and their dogs didn’t like him neither! He definitely needs to train in customer service! and he clearly hasn’t got a passion for sick animals! How can a vet be scared of animals!!
Awful experience of having my beloved staffy pts at Bolton Animal Trust. Unfortunately I had a cold unfeeling and uncaring vet who claimed my baby was clearly a welfare case who should be pts or hospitalised, before he knew anything about her. I was questioned "what had I done about her condition - I felt I was being interrogated! I had rang earlier to request she be pts - she was almost 17 years old, thin and frail and no amount of medical intervention was going to make a 17 year old dog into a bouncing puppy again, she had been with us since she was 6 weeks old. I made an appointment as late as poss in opening hrs and was there 10 mins early at 5.50pm. We knew she was on borrowed time and we knew the decision would have to be made at some point to let her go. Yesterday was that day, she deteriorated and was struggling to walk and had bad diarrhoea and we had already made the decision so had no intentions of expecting any form of trying to prolong her life - we went for one reason - to bring her peace. I went in opening hours and was told over the phone it would £65 because its weekend. At this point I wasnt aware of the actual opening times of the surgery. When I got there after the vets "opinion", that I might add has made my grief worse as I now feel guilty that she had got old and frail and all can hear in my head over and over again is "welfare case", he said it would be £85 to pts - I challenged this as I was told £65 over the phone - he said 65 for the consultation and 20 to pts, in my head I thought consultations were free but did not wish to argue. He then took her into another room wrapped in the blanket we had brought her in - to put a canula in. ( he instructed us to wrap her in the blanket) Brought her back under one arm like a sack, minus blanket, and dumped her on the table, left the room and came back with blanket and two syringes. Said nothing to us and proceeded to put her to sleep whilst I held her, i felt her go and was heartbroken ....he listened to her heart and said "Cleo had passed away peacefully, sorry for your loss, i must dash i have an emergency thank you for your understanding. He never looked at us once and just before he rushed off and left the room - Cleo passed more diarrhoea - he pointed to the sink and left us to clean her up. His so called emergency was being carried out in the waiting room that we walked through and could hear him clearly calling someone elses beloved pet "morbidly obese and should be pts" - much to the dismay of the poor owner who defended herself. Meanwhile I am at the desk to pay for this awful service to be told it was £150....thats 3 different prices i had been given!!! I had borrowed the £65 and had 20 on me so I was ok with that, yet....i questioned this amount and also reminded them of the not for profit and FREE consultations - to be told well it is weekend - BUT YOU ARE OPEN 7 days a week until 6.30pm SO IT IS NOT OUT OF HOURS - so why the extra cost of a consultation fee of which i still owe?? i would also like to add that You really need to teach your chosen vets some empathy for your clients as we love our pets dearly, and perhaps make it clear what your actual costs are as this has really upset me and I will never use you again.
Do not use the Bolton branch. Took me dog in with pancreatitis which has a 70% success rate. They were more interested in how much it's going to cost me. £690.00 for three nights stay. The black bearded Vet was more interested in going home at 8pm than putting my dog on a flush.he said I would get a call at 8am to give me an update.Long story short I didn't get the call as promised. I phoned them at 11 am after hearing nothing and was told my dog passed away at 10 am . DO NO T GO THERE.
