DO NOT USE THIS COMANY! After paying £489 for car hire for 10 days, the have proceeded to take another £265 out of my account for tolls I have paid and sent the receipt for and for an extra days use age when I have the sign agreement for pick up and drop off with the dates and times. They refuse to take notice of any of the paper work even though it is theirs to begin with. Please stay away or be ready to pay extra!
I went on a comparison site and found the ideal car for our family trip to Greece.The first inconvenience is that when we arrived at the Europcar in Greece, they wanted more money. Take into mind that the car was only £106 for the week but now because we didn't have a credit card they wanted an extra 180 euros for insurance and 290 euros for the debit card details and deposit. The staff were very rude and our kids were getting very uncomfortable. The car was very scratched when we got it and so my husband took photos just in case. The site said that the car could fit in our suitcases which it could not but lucky enough having 3 small children we managed to squeeze the other suitcases on the foot well. We drove the car to the hotel. In the whole week we drove the car once for around 30 minutes. It was parked in the hotels car park. When we got back to the car depot one of the workers went straight out to the car and straight to the windscreen, apparently we had scratched the windscreen. I explained that we used it for a total of an hour in the whole week of having the vehicle and that there were scratches all over the car when we received it. The man sarcastically said maybe you upset someone at the hotel. Then he said maybe a cat scratched it. These accusations were absolutely ridiculous and he started getting very rude which was making my kids very distraught. I will not be using Europcar again, the whole experience has me thinking how many other customers they've fleeced and upset!
Very Poor1) Very long wait, the desk operatives (sales persons) take far too long trying to upsell to their 'new found friend'. Long queue, everyone was very agitated, all other car hire in the building were processing their bookings ok and did not have any queues. This was not peak time.2) Disregarded our booking we did through the Europcar app, had to make a new booking on the desk, tried to charge us more but he realised I really was not happy over the situation, oh it was such a huge favour he was doing us to match our original price of the booking...3) Car windows inside and out were not clean, fog/mist/dried on cleaning drops, we went and bought products to clean the glass properly ourselves.Other very little issues at he desk which all ended up into a big issue in total. I have left doing this review for 2 weeks so there was not any 'knee jerk' reaction.Ok 1 star, we did eventually get a car. We will be going back to our usual provider.
So the below reply to this email shows that Europcar have a machine that replies to these messages and pays no attention to its complaints at all. I have now emailed them 12 times in total with not a single acknowledgement let alone a response. Avoid this company at all costs, I urge you. MESSAGE TO EUROPCAR - don't just reply to this review by saying 'contact us through our website blah blah blah' as YOU NEVER REPLY TO THAT (even if it actually works and doesn't just crash!!). I have done that 3 times now and still no response from you. Actually contact me and put this right. Complaint - Despite them confirming I brought the car back full and with no damage they have charged me for something. Their website is a mess so you can't message them easily. No idea what they have charged me for as I can't get an invoice. They probably think that you will give up and just pay the charges. Its only 11GBP but if that is for petrol then its about 5L which would have driven about 50km. So highly unlikely to have been that the tank wasn't full!This is the 2nd time they have done this. Don't use them! I ordered through rentalcars.com and they have not been much help either.
We rented a car for a week at Edinburgh Airport and got a MG ZS. The penultimate day of our rental, on our way to our accomodation, we had to stop due to a road closure. After the closure was lifted, we were not able to ignite the car again. This was some time around 8 pm. After calling the Europcar service, it took 2 hours for the technician to arrive. Apparently the immobilizer was active, some kind of software malfunction, happening for reasons not even he could explain. We were ready to go again some minutes before midnight, lost therefore our hotel reservation, where check in was till 10pm only. Our flight back home was the next morning and since we were scared this might happen again, we decided to return directly to Edinburgh Airport spending the rest of the night (arrival time was after 1am) at the parking lot. Needless to emphasize the inconvenience caused.Due to this, it seemed adequate to ask for a refund for the caused trouble, since if any fault is caused by the costumer Europcar would not hesitate to bill the extra expenditures. But all we got offered was a lousy 10% discount on our next booking. An offer like this + the fact, that europcar is expanding its fleet with low quality chinese cars will make us seriously rethink renting anytime again from Europcar.I for myself cannot recommend renting with them.
Conned into buying additional insurance at the Stansted Airport rental desk on the premise that not buying it would invalidate the Full Protection package I had already purchased when making the booking... Customer Services adamant that since I had signed up for it the contract stood. I was under time pressure to get to see my ill mother, so was unable to take the time to argue the point. Legally probably right but appalling customer service.UPDATE: I received an early reply from Europcar UK inviting me to provide full details via a link. I took the time and effort to fully describe the circumstances as requested. I subsequently received an email from the same customer service rep who had dealt with original complaint, repeating in parrot fashion the same line previously taken - no further attempt at resolution was made. I'm now even more determined never to use Europcar again!
Booked a car in Toronto in May 2024. I was charged twice. The first time by Europcar and the second time by their third party provider Routes Car Rental at Toronto Pearson airport. It's now July 2024 and a problem that should have been easy to sort out has not in fact been sorted out. The total charges levied make the actual price of the car more than 100 GBP per day and there is no sign that a refund will be issued.Update following Europcar's response 5th July:I already am in touch with customer services, and have been since June!
Please do not use Europcar in Naples airport. We hired a car for the weekend for my husbands 50th. we did not damage the car. We returned to the office out of hours due to our flight time. Then we received a bill for damage to the car, alloy wheel scratch and wing mirror scratch. We didn’t damage the car, we have argued this with Europcar in Italy, they are now threatening debt collection agencies. However, they have no photo evidence of the car prior to our hire period. I would suggest you avoid using Europecar at Naples unless you want a further bill. They even had the cheek to suggest by leaving the car there out of office opening hours that it was our fault??? We can’t get easyJet to schedule flights around there opening hours. Avoid and use someone else. I have always used Europecar but I will never, ever use them again!
Absolutely disgusting company, RIP you off with fraudulent premium insurance that you don’t want !!Took three weeks to get a refund for insurance we refused at collection, worst customer service ever and even the MD couldn’t be bothered to reply to our complaint, do not go near them!!
