Same story as other reviewers

Same story as other reviewers. I purchased petrol at Tesco metro and when the cashier told me it was completed I left and didn’t give it another thought until I received a Forecourt letter stating I had not paid for fuel. Again, there is a picture of me holding up my phone at the cashier to pay. When a cashier confirms the payment has gone through you believe them. I did have concerns about this being a scam letter so checked the company credentials. I now wonder if Tesco the metro cashier did this deliberately? I will never use that service station again. Tesco Metro Clifton Lane Express Nottingham and will be informing Tesco they need to train their cashiers properly before they are working at the till.

Wrong car wrong reg wrong person wrong address

I received a payment demand based on a misread licence plate. Fortunately the photo evidence clearly showed a vehicle without a factory fitted sunroof, which my car has, a receipt with no veh. reg. no. and at a place I've never been in the vicinity of.Obviously looked up a guessed reg no and identified it as my diesel car which was fuelled with unpaid petrol.Due diligence would negate false representation and intimidation of innocent victims.

Vile company

Vile company - Aaron in particular a disgusting, lazy, ignorant pig. Clearly a clerical error where they have created a duplicate case against me for non payment but couldn't be bothered to help me. A disgusting bullying company who I will report to trading standards today.

Got grumpy when I said I had proof of payment.

Eventually managed to actually speak to an 'adviser' who was OK to start with but then got grumpy and short with me when I said I actually had a receipt for the time, date and location they claimed I'd driven off from without paying. Instead of actually dealing with it, now I have to send an email recounting everything I've already said. Definitely needs work on customer service.

"Debt" Recovery at it's worse

Received a letter confirming I had driven off without paying for fuel. Not only was the time between the "alleged" offence and the "proof" I owed nearly 30 mins different it was for an incorrect amount - I have the amount coming out of my bank account proving payment - This lot are scam merchants at best.......I'll also be "reviewing" the forecourt in question

My story seems so similar to others on…

My story seems so similar to others on here. Received a letter saying I hadn’t paid for fuel. I asked for more details as this is something I would never try to do. First they said I attempted to pay but the transaction wasn’t completed. I said that didn’t sound like my fault. They then said I paid for other items but not the fuel. They couldn’t say why they changed their version of events but insisted I pay the £35 admin charge within 5 days or it would become £60. I asked for their appeals and complaints policies. They said they didn’t have them and didn’t need them because they were an unregulated company! I called them up but person I spoke to was rude, interrupted me then hung up. I took the issue to Tesco who so far, have been helpful. They managed to remove the penalty fee so I could pay the fuel, which is what I wanted to do the whole time. Really hoping I’ve heard the part from Forecourt Eye. Though considering referring to Trading Standards and BBC Rogue Traders. I recognise drive offs must be a serious issue to deal with. But that is not what is going on with the incidents reported on here. I worry that vulnerable people are likely to be bullied into making payments that are from cashiers or machine errors. I’m shocked Tesco uses the service as a company that admits to not being a regulated company or having a complaints policy

I received a letter from Forecourt Eye

I received a letter from Forecourt Eye, demanding I pay for fuel and an admin charge for driving off after getting fuel at a Shell Garage just outside Coleshill in Birmingham. This garage has no pedestrian access and sits on a busy dual carriageway. I had used the service station to put fuel into my car, then went in to pay and get some water and sweets to get me on my way, I paid with my card, tap and go, after informing of the pump I used, was asked if I wanted a receipt and I said no thank you and carried on my way. It seems that the service person inside did not add the fuel to my bill, and just charged me for my water. I had not noticed they had not added the fuel, I taped and went. I asked Forecourt Eye to review this as it was not a drive off but an error / mistake by the service station staff. I was happy to pay for the fuel as it was just a mistake by the staff but do not see why the admin charge should be paid for due to their mistake at the till. They refused and the letter advised that if I did not pay I would be banned from drawing fuel from all petrol stations. When you tap and go so often no one reads the figures and just assume that the staff are doing their job correctly.I was horrified to think I’d done a drive by and disgusted at this company, accusing me of being a criminal…so much so that after reading all these reviews of this repeated experience I wonder if the attendants or forecourts are on some sort of commission from this process. Might get legal advice and maybe a freedom of information request. Here was forecourt eyes response:Thank you for your enquiry. Fuel Payment Transactions When you obtain fuel or other goods from a forecourt operator you enter into a contract to pay for those goods and services. You are required to pay on the spot for fuel and other goods obtained before you depart a fuel forecourt premises. It is your responsibility to ensure a transaction through a card reader is completed before leaving the premises. You should review your receipt and report any errors or discrepancies to the shop immediately. While cashiers play a crucial role in processing payments and providing assistance, they do not have the same level of knowledge about your purchases. Therefore, it's your responsibility to verify the accuracy of the transaction and address any issues with the cashier before leaving the shop. If you leave without successfully paying for your fuel, the forecourt operator is entitled in law to recover their debt by reasonable means. Forecourt owners report details to Forecourt Eye Ltd to recover what they are owed under the contract and the administration fees incurred in this process. In the UK, taking fuel from a petrol station and leaving without paying is considered a criminal offense. The relevant legal provisions can be found in the Theft Act 1968 and the Theft Act 1978, which cover the offense of theft. Appeals against administration charges are not accepted. If a customer leaves without successfully paying for their fuel or goods, the forecourt operator is entitled in law to recover their debt by reasonable means. Our subscribers report details to Forecourt Eye Ltd to recover what they are owed under the contract and the administration fees incurred in this process.

PART 2 OF REVIEW

PART. 2 - Regarding the aggressive practices of Forecourt Eye, I found the following:-The multiple (automatic) emails stating “It is likely you will be unable to draw fuel in the UK until this debt is settled”. I drew fuel at several sites, quite a few times after, with absolutely no issue whatsoever. The multiple (automatic) text messages stating my “number plate is now on a UK watchlist. PAY NOW to remove it and to reduce your admin fees”.The reviewer from October 31st 2025, citing a reply from Forecourt Eye, as follows:- “In the UK, taking fuel from a petrol station and leaving without paying is considered a criminal offense. The relevant legal provisions can be found in the Theft Act 1968 and the Theft Act 1978, which cover the offense of theft”Aside from the spelling errors, this statement is incorrect, misleading, and clearly strikes me as another aggressive practice from Forecourt Eye.THE LAW – Section 3 of the Theft Act 1978, Making Off Without Payment - 'It is committed where a person, knowing that payment on the spot is required for goods or services supplied, dishonestly makes off without paying and intending to avoid the payment due'*See CPS.GOV.UK guidance*You can see that to commit a criminal offence (in this basic form), you have to DISHONESTLY make off, INTENDING to avoid payment. You DO NOT commit a 'criminal offense' 😂 by “taking fuel from a petrol station and leaving without paying”, as stated by Forecourt Eye.In the majority (if not all) of the reviewer's cases here on Trustpilot, these are Civil matters and NOT Criminal matters.I further note that 95% of reviews on Trustpilot gave Forecourt Eye a '1-star' review. This to me is further evidence of the poor standards of service provided by the company, and perhaps evident of the 'unfair practices' that it employs. My case was resolved without me paying an administration fee (by this point that stood at £100, as Trace Debt Recovery had become involved). The petrol station owner was (eventually) very reasonable about the matter, allowing me to pay for my fuel and my case was then closed.Summary – If you feel that it is wrong then CHALLENGE them, DOCUMENT your engagement and DO NOT be intimidated.I hope this helps.
