Prepaid car rental through Expedia at…

Prepaid car rental through Expedia at Barcelona airport. Returned the car with full tank of petrol - only to discover two days later that refuelling charge has been applied. Basically, they are running a racket - who takes the money is not known to me but is must be a good profit. The complaints have revealed the least competent customer service I have ever encountered. They do not know what the company policy regarding refuelling is! Claimed that the refuelling must take place no more than 30 minutes before car return - a porkie, nothing about time limit in the company policy (I refuelled a day before and parked the car in the hotel garage in Barcelona). Claimed that refuelling must be done no further than 10 km from the point of return - another lie, their own policy states that the allowed distance is 15 km. Just avoid at all cost. I am now going through my credit card company to recover the loss.

Dishonest / zero accountabilty

Entirely dishonest and lack of customer service makes it an AVOID at all cost scenario. Try Sixt in Malaga... they have been good to me. Charged me for extra days when I proved I had returned on time. Charged for thing they couldn't provide (never lost etc)

scam on damage

I thought Hertz was the bench mark in car hire how wrong was I. Been hiring cars for holidays for the last 30 odd years this is the first and last time I use Hertz at Alicante. The customer service in the airport arrivals was excellent every thing was quick and simple .When i found the car in the Multi storey car park it looked like it had been in a banger race more dents and scratches then ive ever seen on a hire car . They email you the damage report while you walking to pick up the car there were 32 photos of the damaged car and it was not that clean on the out side. when i returned the car 12 days later cleaner than when i picked it up the young lad inspecting the car tried to charge me for some of the damage that was already done . I showed him the video I made when i picked the car up and he had to back down. If you use this company make sure to take plenty of photos of the car and a walk around video ,even better book with another company

My wallet with documents has been lost…

My wallet with documents has been lost a few days before travel. I have a police report, digital drivers licencse and the right to drive in Spain according to the police. Still Hertz say they will not hand out the vehical I rented 4 months ago. Leaving my family with only the option of walking or hiring a taxi for any excursion during a full week.

A Disappointing Experience with Hertz - Professional Scammers!

If you are considering renting a car with Hertz, think twice. My recent experience with them was nothing short of frustrating and disappointing. I rented a car without opting for the full coverage insurance, and this turned out to be a big mistake.When returning the car, Hertz staff meticulously inspected it with a flashlight, searching for any minor scratch. To my surprise, they found barely visible scratches and charged me over 200€ for damages that were almost impossible to see. Unbelievable!I recommend anyone who decides to rent with Hertz to bring their own powerful flashlight and thoroughly inspect the car before leaving the parking lot. It's crucial to document every tiny damage and report it to the staff at the lower parking area. If you don't do this, be prepared to pay for anything upon return.The lack of professionalism and the feeling of being scammed have left a very negative impression of Hertz. I will not rent with them again and suggest others look for more transparent and fair alternatives. Run as if there's no tomorrow from this company if you’re not opting for full coverage insurance!

I've always considered Hertz to be one of the best of the car hire companies but I was woefully disappointed with an experience trying to arrange reservations for two cars to be picked up from Alicante airport. Firstly, apparently Hertz don't provide email confirmations when reservations are fully paid for at the time of booking. What???!! Even when I called to request a confirmation email to be sent to me, I was told it couldn't be done. Secondly, even though a booking was accepted over the phone for a flight arrival of 00:45, when I sent a DM over Twitter/X to ensure someone would definitely be there to serve us, the Spanish office replied to say that if our flight was arriving after 00:00, they couldn't provide any service. Thirdly, having cancelled our Hertz reservations and booked with someone else, when we eventually got there to pick up our cars on 14 July 2024, we noticed that the Hertz office was, in fact, open and serving customers at 01:15. Extremely poor communication and I wouldn't consider using Hertz in future.

Avoid this company

Avoid this company. Be aware there is no possibility to change your route (and by that: the return location) with this company. Their website states that you have to call a phone number if you want to change your return location, and that their phone line is open 24/7. After having been told "you're now on hold" and been on the line for 13 minutes, a message comes "we are now closed". We tried calling the next day, and after another 15 minutes on hold, they were actually open. Turns out the woman on the line could not help us, despite the website stating they could. We would have to call the pickup-location, drop-off-location and the new required drop-off-location ourselves to "check if its fine by them that we make some changes". 1. All those offices were closed on weekends. 2. There was no way we'd risk making these kind of agreements having read the reviews on this website. So surprised a company of that size can have such HORRIBLE costumer service. Will never use again.

Scammer alert: Hertz at Malaga airport

Hertz at Malaga airport seem to be doing scams as part of their business. I cannot warn enough against these people, so simply avoid them at all costs! I had two experiences during June and July 2024, the first where they added 50 Euro in extras that was never ordered nor requested. However, I was not seeing this before the invoice was issued after the rental was terminated. The second experience was even worse, since there were nobody there to inspect the car upon delivery I returned the key to the office. One hour later I received an e-mail claiming that there were a very minor color scratch on the right rear screen, and they already invoiced me 300 Euro for it, without giving me any time to comment on it nor having a proper taxation. The photos that I took prior to the rental clearly show that this "black mark" was there already, not my issue at all.Claiming anything to Hertz customer service is a dead end. They confirm to have received the claim, but are not following up even after several reminders.The airlines advertise Hertz's services which seem attractive due to extra point givings and some lower prices than other international operators. However, dont be fooled and simply stay away from these scammers!

Awful experience, do not use Hertz at Palma Airport

Awful experience, do not use Hertz / Thrifty at Palma Airport. Had to wait two hours to collect car, so we didn't receive car until 2.30am. On return of car, they asked if we had insurance then proceeded to try and find a fault with the car. They have now deducted £560 from our credit car for a tiny stone scratch to the underside of the car even though we have photo evidence to prove it was already there.
