The concept is brilliant and the website is easy to use. The downside for me are the charges and they should be up front and in the search. When I found a van for 600 for 6 days then actually end up paying well over £900 it's a little bit misleading and would stop me using the service again as I'm not sure why the overheads are so high. If they could be more transparent upfront and reduce those additional costs I would consider using them again.
I think the system in place works brilliantly and made my search, selection and booking a simple processMy only criticism if there were to be one is that the site could do with bolder graphics and areas to read or fill in likewise in a bolder and perhaps slightly larger type face
In July, we booked a motorhome for 6 people to do a 10-day road trip around Scotland, starting from Edinburgh, from August 16 to 26.We paid the full amount in the two installments indicated by the website, and just three days before the rental was due to begin, the motorhome owner cancelled the booking, claiming the vehicle was damaged. Up to this point, I could be more or less understanding, even though no proof was provided, since if the vehicle is damaged, it's reasonable to cancel the reservation.GoBoony offered us an alternative in a different location (about 40 miles away) at a higher price due to the short notice. I immediately contacted GoBoony support requesting that they cover the price difference (among the fees paid during the booking, there's a GoBoony service fee, in our case around £350). At the same time, I sent a booking request to the owner of the alternative motorhome while waiting for customer service to resolve our issue (we were just three days away from starting the road trip and were already in the city visiting, so we had no flexibility). The owner didn’t respond, and we started searching online for other options. The result: no availability for 6-person motorhomes during our dates.I should be able to thank here the help we received from other websites that, although they had no availability, provided us with phone numbers of agencies and private owners to help save our trip, especially Ryan from Bonnie Motorhome. We eventually decided to book a vehicle available in another location and travel there by train (Inverness). This added extra transport costs and forced us to alter our entire travel plan and previous campsite reservations. Fortunately, the new motorhome owner responded quickly and accepted our booking for the same dates (more expensive than the original one, of course), but it was either that or cancel our holiday. On August 19 (six days after contacting them, and 3 days after the new booking was completed), GoBoony replied saying they couldn’t proceed with our compensation request and even boasted that we had managed to make another booking thanks to their platform. Well yes, we did, after spending nights in the hotel searching for alternatives and making calls during the day when we should have been enjoying Edinburgh or Glasgow. In short, we incurred an extra cost of around £1,000, including trains, campsite cancellations, new bookings, and the higher price of the motorhome.I believe that if I make a booking through a platform that connects private owners with customers, and the reservation is cancelled for reasons beyond the customer’s control, the owner or the platform should provide a real solution without increasing the price. That’s what service fees and insurance are for.So I’m sorry, but never again GoBoony, I cannot recommend it.
We booked a camper through Goboony, but unfortunately our trip ended on the very first day because of a battery failure. Roadside assistance confirmed the battery was old and advised us to not turn off the car, otherwise the vehicle might not start again. This made the vehicle unreliable and unsafe to continue a multi-day trip abroad. What disappointed us most was not only the breakdown itself, but how Goboony handled the situation. Their response was that the roadside service “did not declare the camper unusable,” and therefore, they considered it our decision to cancel. This ignores the fact that the technician clearly said the battery was defective and warned us about the risks of turning off the car. For us, this was enough to make the trip unsafe and impractical. We felt caught between an uncooperative owner, who denied the problem despite the roadside assistance advice, and a platform that dismissed our safety concerns. In the end, we lost the entire rental cost.If Goboony wants to present itself as a reliable alternative to traditional rental companies, it should protect renters when a vehicle is not fit for purpose. At the very least, clearer policies and stronger support are needed when the safety and reliability of the vehicle are in question.
Absolutely shocking experience with Goboony. Our booking was cancelled at the last minute and, despite endless chasing, we’ve had no response at all since 13th August. Promises to “get back to me ASAP” were completely ignored. I was dealing with Evandro, who confirmed refund timelines but then vanished without resolving anything. This cancellation has caused huge financial and emotional stress. Goboony provided no alternative vehicle, no practical help, and no urgency whatsoever. We were left scrambling to salvage our holiday at our own cost:£500 extra for a replacement campervanAdditional ferry-change feesExtra fuel costs to collect a replacement motorhome two hours awayOver £2,000 upfront paid out without any option to transfer the original fundsAll of this was because of Goboony’s complete failure to manage the situation responsibly. We’ve been left out of pocket and stressed at what should have been the start of our holiday. In my view, this company’s customer service is unreliable, unresponsive, and totally unsupportive. I strongly warn anyone considering booking with them to think twice before handing over your money.
Goboony support is nearly worthless. When you get them on the phone, they just tell you to call the AA and deal with the owner. Additionally, and the main reason for the 1-star review, is they refuse to reimburse their insurance for a cancelation that was no fault of mine (the renter). The van experienced a mechanical breakdown on day 5/9. It was taken by a garage for recovery and we were left 5 hours away from the airport without a vehicle or a place to sleep. The AA did get us a car, which was good, but goboony offers no help and kept the remaining 4 days of insurance (at £32 a day). I am sure this is in their sales conditions, but this doesn't mean that I'm not extremely frustrated to lose the rental and lose £128 in unused insurance.
DO NOT USE! Booking Cancelled a Week Before Trip – They do not give you full refundsWe booked a motorhome with Goboony last year for a trip we’d been planning for months. Just one week before we were due to travel, they cancelled our booking without offering a suitable replacement. After reading the terms and conditions, I discovered that because our booking was cancelled 8 days before departure, we only get 30% of our money back — not a full refund. So instead of returning all our money, they expect us to pay an additional £2,000 toward another booking that could also be cancelled. All reasonably priced motorhomes are now gone, and the only options left through Goboony are either far too expensive or too far away. We have a wedding to attend, campsites booked, and a ferry already paid for, so this last-minute cancellation has caused major stress and unexpected extra costs. It’s been two days of trying to call them — every call gets disconnected. We’ve sent multiple emails asking for help and answers, but no one has contacted us with a fair solution. There’s no emergency replacement vehicle offered, and their “solution” is to have us pay thousands more before even refunding the money they owe us.This experience has been incredibly disappointing and has left us with no money for our trip. At the very least, Goboony should be covering the extra costs or contacting us directly to sort it out. The lack of customer support is unacceptable.Tip for anyone booking: if your trip gets cancelled, you will not receive a full refund — read their terms and conditions carefully, because Goboony keeps the rest.If Gobonny team please contact us and let us know we will be receiving a full refund of the booking that was cancelled to resolve a terrible experience.
I rented a motorhome trusting that Goboony has done its checks on quality of the motorhome and the ID of the owner. What I saw when I went to pick up was a very messy, old and dirty vehicle and the owner was some one else not the one whose picture is in profile. I had to take it as I had made rest of the travel arrangements but DONT TRUST GOBOONYS statements on checks they carry.
